What do you guys think is the best set up audio wise for the speakers and tweeters in the 97 cruiser? I’m trying to upgrade but don‘y want to sacrifice the structural integrating of the truck

Define “structural integrity”. Do you want it OEM as much as possible with out requiring to mod the door panels?

I’m partial to infinity kappa with crossovers for the money.

EDIT: I wouldn’t bother trying to fill all the speaker holes the 80 came with. Two pairs of components front and rear doors with tweeters and some 6x9s in the quarter panels. I haven’t done this on the 80 yet but the doors can’t be much shallower then the 60s?

Try here in the 80s FAQ

You're going to find very few decent speakers that fit behind the stock grilles. Most people just bite the bullet and cut them for 6.5s. There are tons of audio threads on here that may be a little outdated but should point you in the right direction with dimensions and whatnot.

I did mine last winter, and I did a ton of searching on here. The problem is that car audio equipment has a high turnover and something that worked well for people 2 years ago has probably been discontinued. As far as I recall, you will have to alter the front in some way to get decent speakers. Almost nothing fits, I recall someone came up with an insanely expensive speaker that would fit behind the factory grilles but it was way more than I had to spend. You will have to decide how much alteration/fabrication you are comfortable with.

My post #3 shows you what I did, I am very happy with the results.
