Update:
I have had a few people look at the truck this weekend. Mostly people who don't know what a landcruiser is (sign on street) and one guy who knew a lot about them and gave me a very appreciative run through of my truck and passed because it wasn't right for him. I try to be brutally honest to people and want them to be happy with their purchase and gives me a sense of satisfaction that they will have a good experience in the long run.
With that being said. Here is a very detailed and long description of everything that I can think of that needs work or has happened to my truck. Remember this is a 30 year old truck.
Exterior:
* The previous owner ran the drivers side into his garage. (He forgot he had lockers on for some reason. It doesnt turn to well with them on) I attached a picture of the truck when I originally got it to show the damage. I replaced the bumper, side fender, hood and lights from another landcruiser and did no body work on them. When that happened the ac condenser aluminum lines broke so there is no air conditioning. Please look at before and after pictures.
*The top has only the two side bars from a factory roof rack.
*The moon roof works last time I checked but I don't use it because I helped replace my dads FJ80 moonroof cables and that's a lot of work and didn't want to do it again. No leaking as far as I can tell.
*The rest of the exterior I think is in really good shape. Paints faded and desert pinstriping here and there. Never used for rock crawling.
*All doors open and close easily. The drivers door outer pull handle broke off. It takes a little practice to open, but it does. The rear tailgate is stiff but it hadn't opened for a few years before yesterday. ( needs lube )
Underneath:
*I am the 7th owner of this truck according to car fax. It started in Texas and moved to Virgina until 2002 where it came to California. It does have some rusting on the components under the truck. Like the guy said, more than expected from strictly a California truck. I will take pictures when I get off work to show this.
*The passenger side rear axle outer seal is leaking gear lube. I noticed this about a month ago when I put new brake pads on front and rear.
*Last time I engaged the lockers was on a trip about 5 years ago. Worked great then.
*There are other oil seals on transmission and transfer case that are also leaking. I will post picture.
*Since I have owned this truck. I have not had to do anything major as far as maintenance other than brakes and fluids.
*The wheels and tires on the truck I would consider rollers. The wheels are 15" and the newest 3 tires are from 2014. One tire is not safe for a long trip and will need to be replaced before. I do have a factory set of wheels with junk tires on them that go with the truck. Also factory trailer hitch.
Interior:
*The seats have typical cracking but still usable. Previous owner put two large amps underneath the front seats and I think they broke the moving mechanism forward and back. The seats are in the far back position. The other functions of the seats all work.
*Dash pad is cracked in multiple places
*The center console latches are broken
*No air conditioning as mentioned above
*All door windows do not work. The drivers window worked until in Arizona the rubber melted and stuck to the window and pulled the window actuator off the window glass. If you push switch down to roll down window, the glass can fall down inside the door. I keep the window actuator up and the glass stays in the up position with about 3 inches from the top. The other 3 windows worked until one day they didn't. I think the drivers side window control module is not working correctly. The door locks on the drivers side are intermittent. Some times they work other times the dont. I never had any problems with the passenger side.
Drivetrain:
*Motor has 184,000 miles on it and confirmed with car fax report. I would think that it has all original drivetrain components at the same mileage. The valve cover gasket, distributer gasket, and the power steering reservoir all seep. At a stop the motor idles down to about 400 rpm and starts to shake a little but I dont know how to raise the idle rpm. I put medium grade fuel in it and havent had any check engine light for egr or O2 sensors in about 5 years. The only check engine lights I have ever gotten has been for the egr system and o2 sensors. I will smog the truck before new owner takes possession of it.
*Transmisson shifts smoothly. I never had any problems.
*There is a switch inside (7 pin mod?) that allows lockers to be used in high range.
*As far as I know the PHH and head gasket have not been done. I used this as a desert truck for many years in Arizona and never had any overheating problems with it.
Well after reading all of this you should have a good understanding of what I meant by "project truck" I am sure there are other things, but this definitely is everything I can think of right now. This truck has a lot of potential and most of what needs fixing is plastic or age related.
I think the price I put on this truck is fair for both parties. I unfortunately work a lot and cannot get to the computer and check things quickly. I will however get back to everyone who Pm'd or noted.
Please note that I only deal in person (old school) in final stages of a sell. Which means in person and cash in hand from buyer and buyer takes it with them. So they can look at and there are no surprises later. Thanks
I will add the picture of when I got this truck 15 years ago. And will add the underneath, drivetrain, and motor compartments pictures in a couple hours when I get back to the house.
