New to the Land Cruiser world, and boy do I have questions.... OK, so my 94 was throwing a check engine light code. I have an older Innova scanner that is supposed to read OBD1 codes, but as luck would have it, I don't have a 16 to 22 pin adapter (since ordered one) but was able to use the paper clip "technology" to read the code. (bad O2 sensor) But here is the problem: I cannot find the OBD1 port under the dash, what am I missing? Can I use the port in the engine bay to connect to a scanner? However, if you will review the pics I attached to this thread, you will see three connectors hanging beside the steering column underneath

, what are these for? And in the next pic you will see two connectors just above the steering column, what are these for?

There’s no port on obd1 trucks under the dash. The one you paper clip is the only diagnostic port on 93-94. Your scanner might work? The only two I know that work for sure is the toyocom scanner and a new zf-scan tools people have been using with a APP.

89465-69115 That’s the part number for O2 sensors that work on the 93-94 rigs just replaced them on my 93.

Well, thats the internet for you, I googled the location and it stated that the OBD1 port was below the dash. The older scan tool I have is supposed to read OBD1 codes, but from what I hear you saying that the Innova will not read "Toyota", well heck. The more perplexing issue to me is what are all the unused plugs?

Do yourself a favor and download the FSM from the resources section of this forum for free. It will answer questions like this.

For fault codes it will also give specific items to test. That is in the SFI Section in the engine section.

FYI, the port you 'paperclipped' IS the OBD1 port ... in the engine bay next to the firewall on the passenger's side (I also have the 94 80 Series)

When I cleaned the O2 sensor plugs, my code went away.

Thanks, I'll be sure to to look that up. I appreciate the resource as it seems the world is at least wrong 50% of the time when it comes to Cruisers when hunting down parts or advice.

@rassmuss

The FSM will not provide part numbers. You can find parts numbers from several online suppliers that have Toyota online parts for catalog/diagrams based upon the VIN you provide. Partsorq is one of those.

I just happened to find an FSM locally, that is one big manual, bigger than a Sears & Roebuck Christmas catalog.

Welcome to the 80s,
If you can get a hold of TOYOBD1 (Toycom model), it can read codes but can't reset them. It also gives you ECT readings (a must) and everything off your ECU via bluetooth and it's apps.
Also.....Your welcome :flipoff2:
