My father and I have taken up a nice little turbo project on my 1993 Toyota Pickup. The truck is rust free and stock with 31" tires. The turbo is a Garrett T3 from my Saab. Let the pictures do the talking.

The truck was from Florida and came with A/C. The A/C is staying for now. All that is left to do is wire up the engine, run an intercooler, and test everything; then the tuning process can begin.

Here is the custom gauge holder:

beautious.... Offroad truck or just a nice street cruiser?

You should call C-Dan and ask about quantity discounts on head gaskets. Buy 'em by the dozen!

Great looking pics!!

Welcome and keep'em coming!!

I really hope that turbo will work for your app, I know its a T3 (fits the flange) and it is a turbo but that (without seeing setup specs) is where the similarity's end, hope it works for ya.

What CR are you?

The CR is a stock 22RTE so I think it is 8.5:1? Yeah about the yellow paint, I came home one day to find all of that yellow. I had a can of rustoleum lying around and my old man used it for some reason. You can't see it much when the engine is in the truck, especially with all of the wiring.

The truck will be a street cruiser, we have a 97 Taco that is the worker. I sold my Saab and I am looking for a rock crawler.

We are shooting for anywhere around 200whp. This will keep it reliable, as well as only running about 11-12 PSI.

We chose the T3 because it works great with the 2.0L in my Saab. I run about 14psi and have about 220hp and 280ftlbs. I figured the 2.4L 22re would spool the turbo quicker especially using the equal length header.

Megasquirt maybe?

Again nice work....keep us posted on how it turns out.

Well said......................................sounds like reality?

You did say you're gonna sawsall the fenders and slap on some 44's right? Keeping the stock gear ratio and open diff of course.................:D

:flipoff2:

Hellz yeah. Then all kinds of lights.

The header was welded by my father with parts supplied from LC. The pistons are from LC as well, specifically for a 22re with 0.20 over (I think).

Thats pretty sick, did you end up with a megasquirt system or the stock RETC comp? Also what are you using for a cam? The last RE I rebuilt I thought about doing that, but was a ton more work than I wanted to do because of not having a doaner, good luck, cant wait to see the numbers/times!

We have not run the engine yet, for now it has stock everything for fuel. We need to see if the rebuild is healthy, then it will get what it needs.

What kind of piston rings are you using. I just did a mitsu turbo engine I am having some problems with blowing oil. I used Hastings Moly rings, and after 450 miles I still blow blue smoke.

Intrested to hear what you used and how it works when you get her running.

Did you run bigger ring end gaps because of the turbo?
My experience with turbos is quite limited, but I have always had problems with keeping the oil cool. On my last project I ditched my doughnut heat extanger for a front mount oil cooler. It works great, gets rid of a ton of heat.

That rig looks kick ass, good luck with it.

cheers,

The Truck will have a side mounted oil cooler, or an oil cooler that bolts off of the oil filter. With turbo cars you do really need oil coolers.

The rings used were called Total Seal I think. We'll see how it goes, but most parts are from LC Engineering and they know what's going on.

I did lots of research on the total seal rings in my turbo engine. Half love them and the other half hate them. When it comes to engines everyone has their own opinion.

I am intrested to hear how your total seals work? Could you take some pics of installing them, i've never done it before.

cheers

Already in the engine, sorry :D. I believe that Haynes has the procedure, or the rings come with instructions.

I've had a lot of trucks with the 22RE and I wish I woud have done what your doing. Congrats on all the hard work, looks great.
