Got the new assembly put in and cleaned the fuel tank out pretty well. Actually looked good when I was done. Got the vehicle started twice for about 3 seconds then it died. Now it won’t turnover. Charged the battery and still won’t turn over, but all the lights show up and I can hear the fuel pump running when I turn the key. Assuming the starter is bad or knocked out of place. Anyone ever had that happen?

Also another note I think the head gasket is blown. Changed the oil and a decent amount of coolant in the oil pan. Just hoping it’s not cracked block but the plan was to rebuild the engine anyway. May just purchase a rebuilt one if it’s cracked block.
Well, was going to suggest that there's air in the fuel lines. But the HG issue would cause your symptoms as well if it's as obvious as you say.
If the engine turns over, the starter is working correctly imo.

Thanks! It was turning over but stopped. Might’ve burnt the starter up as old as it is and as much as I was cranking it to try and start it. Bought a new starter so going to install that this weekend.

How'd it go?

As you can probably tell since it’s been a year since I’ve posted so not the best lol.

I couldn’t get the old starter off to save my life (working in a driveway with minimal equipment didn’t help). Finally got it towed to a shop and they got the starter switched out and got her running but definitely a blown head gasket with metal shavings, oil, gas, and antifreeze all mixed together when they drained the oil.

They recommend a full engine replacement due to all of that in the engine. I’m inclined to believe they’re not lying - they’ve always done me fairly I feel like. So I’ll probably buy a remanufactured engine from cruiserparts and have them swap it and be done with it.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

More $$$$$ always works IMO. A member on here whom rebuilds engines would be worth contacting @Fj80oregon would be invaluable for advise.

Happy to talk cruiser engines if you need a rebuild! Or if you wanna just chat about options.
Definitely would love to chat. Torn between rebuilding and buying remanufactured, what’s your opinion there? If I buy a remanufactured engine, I’d want to go with a 95-97 so I could potentially supercharge it later if I wanted to.

Also, seriously interested in swapping a 4.7 if the price isn’t too terrible compared to replacing or rebuilding mine given all the extra steps. There’s a guy local to me who has a brand new 4.7 that has never been installed. Still on the factory crate. I think that would be a badass install, but seems like it’s a lot less common than an LS swap. Feel free to shoot me a message if easier. Thanks

You need to do more research. Converting an ODB1 model truck to ODB2 is a very involved and expensive. You need change more than installing a newer motor. Think ECM, replace VAF with MAF, wiring harness modified to account for different sensors and physical lengths.

You can run a supercharger on an ODB1 model. I supercharged my 94 back in Nov of 2000, as did CruiserDan and a few others. Technology has improved since that time with piggyback or standalone computers, methanol injection etc.
