Hi, guys, names Lee. I am looking at a 1992 FJ80 with 134,000, it is a 1 owner truck and it is really clean. The owner says that he has all records for maintenance since new, and that he just spent 2000.00 for ac repair and tires. He is asking 6500.00 for the truck. Is this too much for the truck?

I've been doing some research on this site and am torn between the fj80 and fjz80. I am not really looking to do any hard core wheeling, just camping with the family and mountain biking trips.

Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Levi,

I bought my 92 3 years ago for around 5K. It had 112K miles on it. But I also did not have records on it. I love mine though. What is KBB? May help you negotiate.

Seems awfully spendy for a FJ80. Personally, I would wait for a FZJ80, with patience you should be able to find one for about the same price or even less. I suggest you post your location, and those in your area can give you a better idea of local pricing/value.

Check the KBB and look at what other FJ80s (not FZJ80s) go for around your area. I purchased a '91 FJ80 last year in July. He was the second owner, but had records from an alternator, radiator, and the EFI relay replacement. Since the paint was not the best (original owner near beach) I talked him down to 2900. He felt the trans was also not in the best of shape from the clunking. Ended up being broken air intake tube (unmetered air). And gas was $4 a gallon.

The average price for the FZJ80s in my area was 4-5k. Few FJ80s were for sale. Sadly most FZJ80s were in worse shape than what I have now. Mostly body and bad interior damage.

Without a pic I would think 6 is a little steep on the price for a 92. If it had lockers, arb, or some other addons maybe. Sounds like he's trying to recover the 2k on repairs. But with that low milage, maybe you can talk him down a little. Unless its just in really good shape (seat foam, interior, etc, etc).

Wow; sounds a lot like one I'm currently looking at.

"Mine" is at 110k miles, *very* clean, and about the same asking price. Personally, I would actually prefer another FJ80 (I've already got a 91) to an FZJ80. (Yes, I've driven both.)

I'd say that price is fair to high if it's really clean and something you really want, which is the case in my situation: I'd love it if the asking price were lower, but there aren't many relatively low mile/pristine 91-92's out there anymore, and I'd really love to have another one. :frown:

Welcome,

Curtis

I've never paid over $3,500 for any of my 1992 or 1991 Cruisers. They have varied from 110,000-164,000 miles. some have had all records, one owner, etc. I've paid around $6,000 for a couple FZJ80's that had around 130,000miles. I would wait to find yourself an FZJ80 for that price...

good luck

-Ryan
