How about an update? Is it legal?

We're basically done... guys at the shop have been very busy supporting operations for the local police department and preparing for the King of the Hammers event, and that has taken time away from my project...

I am estimating that it should be going to the smog referee later on this month...

Once that's done, I'm planning on having the FJ painted by Bullet Liner... Maybe charcoal gray or black. The local Bullet Liner dealer recommended me to go with a dark color. I'm still on the fence about it... might keep it white with the liner on the bottom part of the doors and flares... or just go full liner on a two color combo...

Really like the color on the Jeep below...

These are some of my options for colors:

This is a front shot of the Jeep... Really liked the bumpers and snorkel painted the same color scheme...

I found this Jeep on a YouTube video from Australia...

Atlas is a good idea but they don't make an offset version... I thought about that many times... Wish they did. Northwest fab is going to make a black box soon that could take the place of the 1400$ adapter and add 2.72:1 to the low range

Could you elaborate on this a little more? I am planning to do this swap in the spring and would consider an alternative to the Marks adapter as, even with a 4" lift, I'm worried about transmission pan clearance.

4" lift you wont have issues with pan clearance. Just use a shallow trans pan and clearance the driveshaft prior to welding in your engine mounts

Hey guys,

It has been a while since I have posted any updates.

The swap was completed back in December... However, we had an issue with the transmission and we have been trouble-shooting for quite awhile.

Finally took it to Dino Trans in Temecula, California and they found the following "small" issues with my junk yard tranny:

So.. a full rebuild is on the way...

This is transmission number 4 since the beginning of the project...

After that is going to the smog referee... almost home free?

I truly hope so... it has been a learning experience for sure.

If I was to do it all over, I would buy a complete donor vehicle with low miles and go from there... or a brand new engine/transmission combo... or a Unimog... hehehe...

Hey guys, I installed some PIAA Super Bass horns.. really like them and think they are a great upgrade from the stock ones..
The price is also really good, about $45 at 4wheelparts.com

Below is a youtube link of stock vs. PIAA

Hey gang,

I have a chance to purchase a salvage 1993 with factory lockers. The owner claims that both axles have been serviced as well as the brakes, and has newer tires...

Would it be worth getting it to swap with my axles?

Is it cost effective to do this or is better to convert my rear axle to disc brakes and add ARB lockers?

Need help ASAP please... cost of the 93 is $3,200 with 250k miles, in running condition... needs paint but body is straight, everything else works great..

Any opinions are welcome..

Also if anyone has a source for converting my rear axle to disc that would be great to compare costs...

Thank you!

I'd add disk and ARBs

Do a part time kit with Chromoly shafts

Probably about the same cost. Depends if you wanted e-locked or ARB. pros-cons on both.

I paid $3k for a elocked donor truck. Put the open axels on it and sold it for cheap. all worked out in my case and feel fine with the route taken.

I would prefer ARB lockers, but the electronics are also good... main issue for me is the rear disc brake upgrade. Just want to get this done...
