Well guys, I finally gave the big double fingers :flipoff2: to the 2LTE, hammered on it real hard, blew it up, cooked the tranny, and parked it. Ahh feel much better . Just happen to have an 83 3B and 5 spd with 230 000. As it stands now I've got the engine in, mounts off the 2lte fit on the 3b, got a 13bt manifold and turbo, just figuring out clearances and a trans crossemember. Clutch and trans crossmember are going to be the hard parts i figure. New rear driveshaft needed as well. wish me luck everyone! has anyone done this yet? or am I the first retard to try it? lol

CHEERS!! updates soon!

No help with the 3b swap, I used a 1hz/5 spd(R151) .when I got rid of the 2LTE from my lj78 it was the best thing I did, O'l sturdy Gurdy up front now. I lucked out with no drive shaft mods, and the cross member worked out in stock location.

good on ya!

the trans crossmember is about a foot short of where it was right in between the control arm pivots, must be out of a bj40? time to bust out the zip disks and the welder lol

Motor Mounts are completely different. Took the mounts off the 2LTE and redrilled holes and fit them to the 3b. Engine sits a little high on the frame mounts, took out the rubber isolators and it sits perfectly. Ill have to weld up some plates with a pin to adapt to the height difference. Have a Transfercase crossmember from advance adapters on the way to take care of the back end. Turbo may have to be reversed on the manifold to make enough room for the exhaust. 3 days in and its coming along nicely... :)

What AA crossmember are you buying to fit to your 5spd? The propellar style they sell works with the old 1 pce t.case. If you are swapping in gear from a BJ40 that is possible, but then it's a 4spd tranny and might not be a 3B? BTW, I have 2 of those old prop style t.case crossmembers in my parts pile, but I guess it's too late to offer. G/L

how much do you want for one? does it come with the side mounts/ rubbers/ studs? id be interested. the one i was going to order is for a fj45/ 55 and bolts to the back of the transfer case plate.

i checked the back f the t case and its got the 6 bolt plate in the back. off a 5 sp h55f.

I'll double check for you tonight and let you know in the morning. If it isn't too rainy I'll compare bolt patterns to the split case on my 60, since the x member was meant for a 40/45/55.

i was told the 3b trans transfer came out of a 1983 bj60

I appreciate it man thanks :)

Engine is sitting on new mounts. Carved off about an inch off one frame mount and a half off the other. Moved them forward about an inch to make room for the turbo in front of the brake/ clutch masters. Oil filter is going to be changed to remote just off to the side to clear brake lines. Tommorow I will mount the new transfer case crossmember from Advance adapters. Also need to modify the rad mount to clear the fan. shifters are in perfect spot, going to heat/bend the shifter shaft closer to the driver side. Lots of work. should be sick though! More to come with pics soon. Been kinda slow since I was working out of town for 5 weeks, and then christmas came.......

Oh yea gonna have to swap the front and rear drive shaft slip joints if theyre the same spline, or swap the output flange off the 2lte transfer case different pattern/studs..

4.88s with a turbo 3B ...
what size boots you going to be running?
i did the PZ turbo / 5 speed install into a LJ78 and ran 35s, works real nice.
the 3B and the PZ are almost identical in displacement and you will be happy with the results....

pics?

Pics comin. Too busy workin on her. Lol. Just got the trans mount sorted and finished. No jacks or anything holding the drivetrain now. Now on to the electrical...

Ill Probably try to find some 35" skinnies if they still exist or some really aggresive 33 skinnes. Dont like the wide ass tires on a yota

Super swampers or 255s are your choices

quick question...... the rear coolant hose coming out of the head on the rear of the 3B, send or return? I am a bit confused on routing as i have two metal heater lines coming from the t-stat area running parralell over the exhaust manifold area. just wondering flow direction for all 3.
thanks.

okay, so the two sends, one goes to the heater and the other to? Is one for a rear heater core? I don have a rear heater. where would i plumb this 2nd line?

Hey guys,
I having an issue getting the starter to engage with the key. All the electrical is hooked up except for the Alt., oil press sensors. The big black ECT plug is not connected. everything turns and clicks as it should, just the the start position on the key does not kick the starter in. I have switched to a 5spd, so i tried hooking up the old auto shifter wiring and puting it in park and still nothing. anybody had issues with this when doin a swap on their lj78? thanks

Didnt want to.....but cut out the front frame crossmember and moved it forward to clear the new rad location, fabbed a new rad support from 1/8th flatbar, and welded a new panhard brace to the opposite frame rail, similar to crushers build. Now i have about 1 inch between the fan and the rad. Next up is plumb the turbo oil feed and drain, picked up a 1/2" hyraulic hose with 1/4" NPT males on both ends, and 2- 1/8 to 1/4 adapters for the feed line at princess auto. Im goin to tap the oil feed/drain plate on the turbo to accept the fitting and have a 1/8 NPT Tee off the oil Prss. sender. so theres that bit figured....
Picked up a tiny tach online yesterday too, we'll see how that works, should be here in a couple weeks?
Any one ever used a divorced style downpipe on a diesel? I picked one up along with my turbo when i got it. 3 inch pipe right form the turbo and a 1 inch off the wastegate.
ciao for now!:bounce::bounce:
