So, I still have a while to wait, but I will have a 91 troopy in a couple months. I am putting together a list of parts I want to have ready to upgrade or change when it arrives. Right up there at the top of the list is to change the 60/40 style front bench seat to 2 single seats and add a lockable center console with cupholders. However, this is one of the few topics im having trouble finding info on. I assume newer 70 series seats would drop right in, but they seem hard to come by in US market ( perhaps someone like @beno can weigh in here? ) and of course shipping some from overseas is not cheap. Seems like most any manually operated bucket seats would fit with a little custom mounting but I am curious if many of you on here have done this front seat swap and could share your experience. Ive seen most of the Corbeau and Sparco aftermarket options and they look really comfy and seem to universally fit lots of vehicles... but it would be cool to keep the products in the toyota family.

I would love to hear any input you all have, thanks!

Have you considered sourcing the seats from domestic model Toyota cars? I'd think that you'd have to do some modification to the passenger seat base regardless. I know that I'm seriously considering sourcing a new pair for the front of my 77 since the 26 year old foam isn't exactly at it's peak level of performance.

I am definitely considering that and that's most likely the route I'll end up going. Just curious to hear from someone if there is a certain gen / model Toyota to look for that require only a little modification. For instance 95-04 Tacoma or something might be easier than a newer gen 4 runner .... That's the kind of thing I can't find much info on.
Surely someone with a 70 series on here has done this and will surface with the seat swap wisdom :)

I found some BMW seats on craigslist. Had to make a bracket in order to mount them in the truck. They fit really nice. Below is a link with pics.

Greg Miller's VDJ78 has power leather seats from a 100 Series on custom-built brackets.

Just about anything is possible when you have access to a custom fabricator.

Those look great! Nice job.

It seems like I should find some seats I really like and figure out how to mount them later haha.
A good friend of mine runs a metal fab shop, so that's where I will source my custom bracket if need be.

Thanks for sharing guys!

The seats are Autotencia brand. I have not used this brand before, I'm hoping they turn out alright.
They are "ADR" approved in Australia. (our governing safety body) They may have re sellers in the US or something similar.
When you break it down there's not much to it;
Supplied to me is a punched 3/16" thick plate with 8 holes - 4 to match seat. - 4 to match rails. Maybe your mate could cut or punch it out for you?
If you need some sizes just give us a holla.
Or if you wish to buy some here on Ebay and send to you? maybe ??

It is best if you keep the existing adjustable rails from your old seats, then you only need the adaptor plate like I did.
They have a 3/4 seat option in their link below which allows to change it to 2 buckets seats.
Product code - 675TL. - you need to confirm this between yourself and the company.
If you scroll down in their page they also have rails/adaptor options. For all sorts of seats.

Seat Adapters & Rail Kits

I did this;

Used old rails

Bolted them onto adaptor plate

Bolted adaptor plate and rails to seat base

Seat c.jpg

Then bolted seats back onto either floor or suspension bases

Thanks very much for sharing. Those look like a great option if the shipping doesn't put the cost up at the level of others I can get here in the states. Good company to know about even for just the bracket if need be. Its nice to go on an Aussie website and finally see a 75 troopy listed in the included vehicles haha

I like the shape / build of those too, seems like a good middle ground between stock style build and race seat since they look stockish but you get the side support like a race seat.

When you mount them up does it look like there will be space for a security console in between them? Most likely I will get the universal 6 1/2" tuffy to fit in there. But in the photo you show with seats in place it looks like the seats may be really close together? Could just be the compression of the image from that angle though. That is one of the only factors I have been warned about when looking for generic fitting seats to put in a toyota is to make sure the seat isnt very wide because our cabs are so narrow compared to most.

I doubt it will be cheap. The adaptors shouldn't cost much to ship though.

With the seats on my bases I have 210mm between the recline knobs

I removed the recline knobs and got 260mm clearance

So I could fit a console that was 240mm I got yesterday from a random car at the wreckers

My son has a 75 series and has custom made adaptors

you can see part of custom adaptor plates where 3/4 seat would be.

Cont: next post.

I got 2 consoles incase the larger one didn't fit. This one is only 175mm (nearly 7") and now resides in my sons car, he will trim to fit.

I have a 73 series so the floors in the troopy and ute are different to mine too.
I had trouble with BMW seats and some others with the height more than width because of my suspension bases.
My seats are;

Using the factory seat rail centres and the seat widths shown above leaves aprox 200mm space between seats.
Wider seats = smaller console space.

That is one of the only factors I have been warned about when looking for generic fitting seats to put in a toyota is to make sure the seat isnt very wide because our cabs are so narrow compared to most.

Compared to a lot of American trucks yes, but I consider the Landcruiser spacious compared to my modern Nissan ute.

Another troopy, hell yea. Subscribed. Im having the bench seats rebuilt but would love to see what you come up with

@Billyfj7312ht Thank you for so much info with pictures to support!! I will definitely be keeping all of this in mind and apply it to my planning. I am sure all that great first hand knowledge is useful to others here as well.
