Would it be accurate to say it is a 25 gallon tank with a useable 20 gallons? How long can you run with the light on? Seems to me there is a pretty big discrepency.

Great suggestion! That's what I did on my 94 when I first bought it and the result was five gallons. Did the same thing a few more times to confirm.Just a suggestion, everyone should test their own truck to see just how many gallons of gas is left in their tank when the low fuel light comes on, When tested my 94 till the low fuel light came on, i in fact only had 3 1/2 gallons left in the tank, not 5 gallons as many members have mentioned above, Knowing for fact if you have 5 gallons, or only 3 1/2 gallons left in the tank just might make the difference between driving to the next gas station, or walking to it on foot,
I assume the newer 80s like my '97 has the same low light feature. Not sure, since I've never seen it come on, but my gauge got fairly low running through Canada two summers ago and the fuel pump died shortly thereafter. Definitely not a good idea to run the tank real low very often.... about as low as I'll go, as the Fuel Pump is cooled by being immersed in the fuel in the tank - which miht become an issue in the summertime...
