Here is some more info on lockers.

Don't be too concerned about the idle issues; mine still does this and it appears to be a Landcruiser thing. The cracked hose thing is common on these older trucks; the MAF is trying to correct the idle control valve and can't really do it with a cracked hose. Total and proper [there is a right and wrong way] cleaning of the throttle body intake system may fix this.

Mine will idle down to around 400rpm and eventually fight its way to 650 rpm. Cold start idle is around 1400rpm , dropping fast to 1000rpm and slowly toward 650.

Factory manuals:

Owners manual = OM60620U

Electricl Wiring Diagram = EWD189U

Repair Manual = RM360U

Yep, and now go drive that '91 and make it even more obvious....

Dunno, If I can get a good enough deal on the 94 and I'm now thinking I can, then I think I'm just going that way. At least with the 94 I can get a written copy of the service history and know that it's never seen dirt.
The 91, I can't get service records for and can't be positive that it's never been offroad like I can with the 94. I guess I'm just gonna have to go for the 94 and do the head gasket and PHH BEFORE they go out.

The 94 has leather which I'm not too fond of, but some Wet Okole's will take care of that.

Awesome Good Stuff. Thanks alot. I have a bunch more reading to do I see.

:)

... and know that it's never seen dirt.

You keep mentioning this as though it is some unforgivable sin. I cannot understand why this would make any difference. These things were designed to live in the dirt 24 hours a day for the life of the vehicle and, in many places in the Land Cruiser market, they do just that. Give it up. You should worry a lot more if it has been on salty roads or driven 5 miles a day to the mall by a soccer mom that never changed the oil. (NOW THAT IS SOMETHING TO WORRY ABOUT!)

The 94 has leather which I'm not too fond of, but some Wet Okole's will take care of that.

There are several vendors that offer cloth covers which gives you the best of both worlds. You keep the leather nice and clean underneath, and you have the feel of cloth (if that floats your boat) on your buns. GT Covers (aka Great Covers) has them for a modest price, great fit, and factory looking cloth.

I'd prefer a driveline that I know has never been stressed. It's alot more expensive to do driveline repairs that it is to do an engine overhaul. In this case however the vehicle was maintained religiously so I should be fine.

Are the GT covers custom fit for the LC? do you have a URL for them?

Thanks again for all the advice and help.

Man that sucks, I'm not gonna be able to get over there today.. Hopefully I'll get there tomorrow.

Thanks.. It's a tough decision.. If I was going to drive it daily i think I would definately go for the 94 but hmmm. As for lockers, I didn't have them in my 4runner and never got stuck..

Mountaintop PA huh.. I used to spend quite a bit of time at Pocono Ranchettes by Gouldsboro.. My Dad lives in Drums...

Locker envy happens because you/I/all-of-us read this board too much. I really WANT lockers but in reality, with the driving I do, I don't NEED lockers. For me it rarely leaves a road (gravel/dirt/pavement) so I don't NEED that locker. But I still WANT them. :D

There is this really nifty thing called the internet. You can use tools like Google. Just for kicks, I put in "GT Covers" and did a Google search. Lo and behold, the first item returned by the search engine is.....

http://www.gtcovers.com/seat-covers/make.asp

You're still not making any sense. A front axle overhaul is ~$500. A rear is much less. An engine overhaul is more like $6,000. A HG job is ~$2,000 at a competent shop.

Quit worrying about whether these things have been in the dirt and start worry about the things that are expensive to fix .... like a HG if the cooling system has not been maintained very well.

One more thing... the wheels on that ugly green truck are not stock.

That's for the link but all you had to say was that you didn't know the URL and I would have found it.

I'm not worried about an engine overhaul as I do my own engine work. ;)

I'm well aware that the wheels aren't stock, and yes it's butt ugly.

It'll stay ugly for awhile too. I'm going to worry about getting everything up to snuff before I bother ripping off the hideous brushgard, running boards and wheels. The first thing I'm going to do is a full tune-up, fluid change (all including diffs and brake), and replace all belts and coolant hoses including the PHH with the SAMCO one. http://www.1fzfephh.com/Silicone.html Also the FHH with the Samco ones.

Thanks Again!

I may be the only other one, but I would also rather have one that has never been offroad. Given the choice I will take one that has been babied and has a giant stack of dealer service records.

I agree with you. Even if it is butt ugly, allthough I'm getting flamed for my opinion. Oh well when you post on the internet you get everybodies opinion and are bound to get flamed. It's all good.

Thanks

Sorry Cappy but that's not the way it works. You search first, then if you cannot find what you were pointed to, then you ask politely and someone will assist.

And once you get some experience here you will find that I was not insinuating that the truck was ugly (its not); I was suggesting that the color is ugly (it is.) Old joke.... you'll get it some day. I kinda like the wheels though.

I'm sorry for not searching properly.

I do think that the truck as a package is ugly. It looks too soccer mom. The brush guard and wheels at a minimum need to go. It has highway tires on it that are brand new so when I get mudders I'll get wheels to go with it. Then keep the set that is on it for long trips. Thanks for all the help and advice.

BTW I cut a deal on the 94 w/ lockers and will I be picking it up in about 10 days.

Woo Woo I'm psyched.. I've missed 4wheeling for the year and a half I've been away. My kids are stoked too..

Cool thanks.

Sweet! I picked up my 80 today. I got the locked 94' I placed my pm order with CDan (Thanks Dan) and on the way home with it I stopped and had my new sneakers put on it. 285/75/16 Nitto TerraGrappler A/Ts They look nice and are pretty quiet so far.

I'm stoked with the rig and wish I had about $10k to hook it all up.. Yeah right dream on.
