Don't be too concerned about the idle issues; mine still does this and it appears to be a Landcruiser thing. The cracked hose thing is common on these older trucks; the MAF is trying to correct the idle control valve and can't really do it with a cracked hose. Total and proper [there is a right and wrong way] cleaning of the throttle body intake system may fix this.
Mine will idle down to around 400rpm and eventually fight its way to 650 rpm. Cold start idle is around 1400rpm , dropping fast to 1000rpm and slowly toward 650.
