You are looking at a one of a kind 4 door Land Cruiser.

It originally was a LJ78 with the dreaded 4 cyl 2LTE engine coupled to an automatic.

I bought this vehicle with a dead engine and decided to install a robust PZ 5 cyl diesel engine, turbo charge it and add a top mount intercooler.

I installed a brand new R141 4 speed manual transmission (and new clutch parts) since it has a lower gear ratio. I then installed a 2.28 low range t/case.

The original LJ78 comes with 4.90 diff gears which I retained for this build. This gives you a healthy 55-1 crawl ratio for when you are off roading. This setup works great with the 35" boots that are on the truck.

I had to swap out the light duty front sheet metal for the heavy duty version to clear the engine. At the same time a custom hood scoop was added.

Now that the drive train was completed I installed a 2.5 dobinson lift, one of the best on the market. It is a soft but stable ride for on the highway and for when going over the rocks.

I also installed a snorkel for that rare time the engine is submerged under water and it also works to keep the larger dirt and leaves out of the air box.

For front end protection I added a unique West Coast alloy bumper. This is a heavy duty version so deer and moose are no longer a fear as well as brush on the trail.

I wanted more storage space so I added an ultra light roof rack.

I also installed a pyrometer, oil pressure and boost gauges to monitor the workings of the engine.

This setup returns very decent fuel mileage.

This is a 5 passenger vehicle with tons of room behind the foldable rear seat.

It is equipped with power windows, power mirrors, sunroof, and wicked heater and of course a nice stereo for those long drives.

It is a solid truck that runs great, looks mean and is wicked on and off the road.

Reason for sale: bored.

considering i have 4 that would be eligible for State consumption ... could be true.

<and the leaves are changing color, next week or so it is going to be a heavenly sight to behold.>

I am sure there is some branch of our disfunctional government
that would screw up the import process so I don't hold much hope. Your leaves are changing....we will reach 34 degrees (C) today....just does not seem fair. ...............1978HJ45

Simply, true. EPA is 20 years. DOT is 25, as always. Nothing has changed.

Not necessaryly true. That is what it still says on all of the websites but when I brought my rig in from Colombia this year there were new forms created that went into effect of Jan this year (with a bunch of other stuff that is a pain in the butt and can cost you if you don't get it done in time). On that form it specifically said 20 years now instead. Soooooo not sure what the deal is but that is what it said.

i do think you have that backwards but in a nutshell, if it is 25 years or older it is a cake walk getting into the states.

we did the teeswater river just outside of Paisley.
we also rescued one of these: (broken wing, sent him off to Vineland for rehabilitation)
he is a baby great horned owl less than a year old. he supposed to weigh in at 1400 but he only weighed in at 1100. they have him on intrevenious and are trying to fix the wing. he will be held (if he can be healed) till spring when we have been invited to the release into the wild near the same spot we found him.:bounce::bounce2:

...and another bump!

I love hooters! Not too often you get to see an owl.

Wayne this looks like a nice truck.

Every red blooded male loves hooters:ban:...........1978HJ45

i was thinking the same thing HJ

FB, the more i drive it the more i am liking it. i will be swapping the 4 speed for a 5 speed soon. it is a very comfortable truck, pulls well on the "bumps" around here and in the gravel/sand pit it really performs well in H range. L range and it would be great on rocks or tech trails.

Stone, yep, it was the first time i saw one up close. such a majestic bird.

we also saw one of these up a tree for the first time in my life. i have seen lots crawling around on the ground or dead on the side of the road but sleeping in a tree?? first time for me. :

and these 3 little playfun otters:

holy cow, you had a national geographic day huh?! nice pics! those coons up on the tree? man, i'd love to paddle that next chance i get!

that PZ is nice inside out! and i've seen that turbo/intercooled pz run....and she hauls!

Looks like an episode of "Animal Planet". Did the owl appear to be the victim of a vehicle encounter ( was it laying in the road)?
That encounter would be somewhat unusual due to the fact that owls are very nocturnal. It is nice to hear you were able to get it to a rehabilitation facility. Unlike when you are talking about 2L-TE's you do appear to have a heart.:):) ......1978HJ45

porcupine, this time of year is great. the water was high. normally the Sauble and the teeswater are too shallow to paddle but it was perfect this time.
anytime, we have lots of rivers and creeks min. from home.
and
a great rental shop to rent from, the owner is a real character.

nah, no sign of vehicle injury. no blood, no external damage to be seen. it was on the river bank in the middle of the country block when i spotted it. Andre was snapping a pic when it tried to take off. it hopped a bit up the bank and into the long grass. we tied up and went to inspect. i was really torn since it might be traumatic to capture the little guy but it was dead for sure if we just left it. the little bird got a free ride down the river and in the Cruiser.
at first i wanted to keep him but, really, wild animals and birds should be in the wild. i checked the net and made a few calls. 2 hours later and he was on his way to the rehabilitation center.

i do have a huge heart for anything breathing. it REALLY hurts when i watch something die, be it food or not. i would make a great farmer till it came to slaughtering day, then i would probably just ...

i have a heart for a 2LTE but when something is beyond healing then it is best to put it out of its missery ... don't you agree?

it was a great day, not normally that interesting but the small creeks and rivers give such a great chance to see nature as it shoudl be.

Romey, we should arrange a trip in northern Ontario next summer, might be fun.

I know how you feel. I grew up on a farm and from time to time my grandfather would let me keep a small pig as pet for a while.
It was not until years later that I realized my pet had not been given to a nice family closer to town but had been served for dinner. I guess its that circle of life thing.............1978HJ45

I will miss the coil sprung ride of my 81 for sure. I think that will be really really hard to beat.
I am a big fan of the 1hz/1hd-t. So i figure the pz will be just a little but less powerful. Turbo/intercooled probably makes it drive like an 1hz if not a little better.
I think the 5 speed would make a world of difference.

So essentially you have a lower geared/coil sprung/t-i-diesel that looks like a hzj77 but better because of those add-ons.

sounds like a plan Wayne! northern ontario has enough stuff to see in a lifetime. even if it was just a touring trip and we brought some canoes, i'd be game! we could even do a portage thing at killarney or algonquin, say a 3 nighter...i know of a glacier like that's kool aid blue in killarney, your jaw will drop when you see how clear this lake is! oohh...it's gonna be a long winter!

porcupines up in a tree, huh, cool!
