1989 FJ62 -anyone know what stock wheel backspacing is?

I have a set of Mickey Thompson alloy wheels in 15x8 with 3.25" backspacing that I originally bought for an FJ40. I traded the FJ40 project car for an FJ62. I need to know my stock backspacing so I can either use the wheels or take them back to 4Wheel Parts and trade them for the proper backspaced wheels....
I just got the FJ62 today! I know nothing about this truck yet re: lift required for tire size (I want 35's), etc., etc... Appreciate the help!

Search function is your friend. But from what I remember the stock backspacing is 3.25" on the stock rims, larger rims (originals were something like 15x6) needed spacers.

What size spacers are needed for a 15x7? I have a set of American Racing Teflon coated wheels model "Chamber" that I would liketo put on my 60. I think the backspacing is 3.75 on these wheels. I think they would look great on my 60, providing they can be made to fit.

Stock rims on all the 60's and 62's here in the US were 15x6 with a 3.5 backspace.

If those rims you bought will clear the calipers you should be fine. And don't plan on 35's on a wagon without some severe lift. It would also be a good idea to change the gears as the auto will suffer with even 33's. The auto is extremely sensitive to engine rpm and 33's are not so good for it. Do some research with a gear calculator and you will see what happens with larger diameter tires

Thanks for saving my my tranny!!! I didn't think 33's would require a gear change... And I guess 35's are out of the question. Will I need a 4" lift for the 33's?? What gearing -4:56 or 4:88's???

33 and 4.88's get you back close to stock gearing on a '62.

33's only need a mild lift, nothing extreme, 2 inches is plenty but wider tires will still rub

People will tell you it's OK to run 33's on the A440 auto and a stock 3FE but it really isn't. You can get away with it for awhile but eventually it shortens the life of the tranny.

To match the stock performance it takes 4.88's. This puts the engine back in the powerband and the auto functions properly, meaning shift points and torque converer lock up.

I ran 33's on my 62 for awhile and after I changed out the gears I had the opportunity to drive a buddys 62 that still had stock gears and 33's. They were worlds apart and I didn't realize how poor my 62 was working until that day.

But realize that gear chages are expensive even if you can do it yourself

I thought the backspacing on the 60 Series factory rims was 3 3/8's on a 15x6" rim. 3 1/2's work without spacers but you might have to use stick on weights instead of rim clamps.

Your 3 1/4" M/T's should fit just fine so long as they clear the front brake caliper. My M/T Classic Lock's clear with the 4-Runner caliper mod and no spacers.

remember there may be issues beyond the B/S in regard to clearing the caliper. Some wheel designs still rub the caliper and will not allow the wheel to be fully seated due to the design of the wheel....right in the area close to the caliper, otherwise its ok. FYI

Yes, I agree that the rims I have are 3 3/8 backspacing. Stock OEM Toyota chrome steelies.

I am running 3.75 inch back spacing with 33's. No issues with calipers or TRE's.

2nd on depends on the wheel. I just got series 51 pro comps 3.5 bs and one side rubbed the caliper the other did not. Had to grind the one caliper down to make it fit.
