Getting this from the California DMV website:

Vehicles Purchased From Out of the Country (Grey Market)
California has special requirements for vehicles imported from other countries (including Canada and Mexico). It may be very costly or impossible to modify these vehicles to meet California emission requirements and/or federal motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS.) No direct import vehicle less than two years old can be converted to California emission standards. Not all direct import vehicles over two years old can be converted to California emission standards and FMVSS. No motorcycle or diesel powered vehicle can be converted to California emission standards. For details, contact the California Air Resources Board (ARB), or visit ARB online.

Am I missing something?

Reg. in another state for 365 days and you'll have 0 problems

Most likely. CA doesn't have diesel emission standards for vehicles of that year, so there isn't anything to conform to. That and there are several who have successfully legally imported 25+ diesel rigs and had them registered here.

It used to be possible. In the last couple of years they have tightened the noose considerably. I personally know two residents of CA who have diesel bj4x imports they cannot register.

If it is first registered in a state that includes the fuel type on their title, it will 'import' from there without any trouble.

Yup that's what I've heard. I would feel like a moron if I bought this and couldn't register it...

Is it just me or is this thing priced too good to be true? $9000 and free shipping too?

Most of the conversions from petrol to diesel that have been done in the states, are selling for more it seems. I am not as familiar with the import diesel rig market, so I could be wrong.

I thought this too but with over 200 sales and 100% feedback I decided to message him anyways. Utah makes this pretty easy.

the only caution i will give:
we had a company from NZ that was selling JDM vehicles in Vancouver to the Canadians, quite a few Canucks got screwed with poor quality vehicles as well as "no show" vehicles after the money was transfered.
