Need FJ60 transfer case back half.
I just cracked the back half (towards rear of vehicle) of my 1986 FJ60 transfer case, need that half or an entire case if I have to buy all of it. In the middle of an engine swap so looking to buy ASAP
Thanks

good luck finding one.
other option would be to get an earlier version, which are more plentiful and have the idler hole reamed out

was something not aligned properly? you shouldn't have needed the bolts to pull the 2 halves together.

I might actually have one. But IIRC, it has some scoring on the inside from the idler gear canting as the bearings failed. Give me a jingle tomorrow and I’ll grab a look/pic.

Must have had misalignment but man was it slight. Found a welder specializing in cast aluminum. You’re right, really tough to find.

Thanks I’ll know more today. I found a specialty welding shop that says they can fix mine but will contact you if that doesn’t work out.

Ha! I meant to post last night but forgot. My memory was correct about the housing being scored, but it’s worse than I remembered. The thrust face where the idler washer rests is scored almost an 1/8” from the washer spinning. Probably just junk I should toss.

I bought the case off eBay for $10 almost 20 years ago on a hunch because it was local. Sure enough, when I went to pick it up, there was a whole 60 carcass. Snagged a great hatch and tailgate out of that deal.

That can be welded back. It's just aluminum, nothing special. I weld these cases all the time. That being said I am getting a complete case housing front/rear from @meatloaf but it is a 34mm case so it would need to be bored for the larger idler. (I can do this and trade you for your cracked case + a little time if you'd like)

I can add that material back and re-machine! :)

Thank you for the response, I’m getting mine welded now, if it doesn’t workout, I’ll contact you. Thank you!
