Hi everyone,

Really battling to get my brakes sharp again.
I’ve basically replaced and rebuilt everything apart from the booster.

I remember reading that I could replace the standard booster with an early model 80 series dual diaphragm booster.
Is this true? And if so does anyone know the model of 80 series that I can use?
Or any other tips for getting the best out of my brakes?

Thanks!
Grant

Everything stock

On my FJ75 I run a remote 8 3/4" PBR VH40 booster on the front brake circuit as well as the booster on the master cylinder, it pulls up and stops like a brand new holden commodore, on my FJ40 I run a dual diaphragm booster, off a mid 1990's hilux forerunner not an 80 series. The extra PRB booster is good for a road truck but locks up too easily for an offroad truck, my FJ40 dual diaphragm setup is better for offroad (both trucks are 4 wheel disc brakes)

FYI and consideration I am running the Marks hydroboost kit on my 1986 BJ70. With the 15B-FT engine on a LHD 70, there was no room for the vacuum booster. This led me to the Marks kit. No kit was offered for an '86 by Marks, so I used the kit for a 4-bolt brake master. I did have to fabricate two new adapter plates because the ones in the Marks kit clocked the hydrobooster into the 15B intake and the brake master off. A stock RHD BJ74 with a 3B might not require any changes to the adapter plates.
Performance is great. The pedal is right there with light braking or emergency stops. No odd manners in operation.

It appears that you have already ordered what you need so this feedback is late to your needs. I hope your brakes come back to what you want with the new booster.

I bought a booster for a 1990 Us spec 80 series.
Used the same model’s master cylinder.
I had to add a third vacuum reservoir since the dual diaphragm takes very big gulps of air.
I added 4runner front calipers and pads too.
