I just purchased a 1986 BJ70 and it's sitting low in the rear. I'd like to get the opinion of everyone what would you do? replace springs? springs and shocks and start over? with who, where should I go? I've been to EBI in the Vancouver Lower Mainland before, they've been great but it's hard to get it in there . I'm wondering if there is somewhere just south of the border in Washington State.

thanks CT! OME is what I have on my BJ42. it's definitely a stiff ride on that LC. Would it be different on the 70?

Hello,

70 Series suspension is a little less stiff than the 40 Series.

Make sure you choose the proper setup. It is common to get the heavy setup, only to realize that without the bull bar and other accessories -for which the heavy is designed- the ride is rather harsh.

thanks Juan. I will not go heavy then. I don't plan on having a bull bar and alot of accessories.

Without a bullbar/winch, bumpers, sliders, drawers, I would get mediums.
When the rears eventually sack out you can add a leaf.

I had old made in Oz OMEs on my old BJ70 - pretty much a twin of yours - and they were great.
When I got my BJ74 several years later the springs were made offshore, and Ive been less happy with them than the originals. My rears are sacked out, I dislike the shim in the spring eyes, and while they were an improvement over stock I didn't think they rode as nice as my original Emus.

I have no experience with the Dobinsons but I'd be interested to try them.

My old 70 with fresh, original Emus in all its glory

Looks great!! Thanks!!!

I am travelling and vacationing in Bend, Oregon.

My 81 bj42 —3b engine - the vacation vehicle- died yesterday on the highway. Knocking inside the engine out of nowhere. Had to dolly it back to camp. Very tragic…. Now what!?
