I would like to share with this Forum a Canadian BJ70 I've recently purchased in the Ottawa area. It has beat all the road salt that they dump on the roads here in Central Canada during the winter months. I would like to thank the previous (2nd) owner Dave, for taking such good care of it for 20+ years, and compulsively spraying it himself with chainsaw oil yearly, and when he couldn't do it himself he had Krown Rust Control do it for him. Also as I understood him, he has limited it's winter use the past few years, the vehicle drives tight and everything works except the rear wiper, is blowing little heat, and the oil pressure guage isn't working. All minor stuff. The vehicle has never had any body work to my or Dave's knowledge. The interior is in great shape. And I hope with professional therapy, Dave will eventually get over selling it me.

Thanks, I'll show you why I bought it on the spot, these three were taken in the shop after i got it back. The oil was there when I bought it, i scrapped it of andwiped with degreaser and I still find original black paint on the frame

however all that glitters isn't gold, the truck does have a few issues, the sliding window holders are rusting, the oil has affected door rubbers, and a few spots of rust are starting to show around the front windshield, also the some of the interior panels are oil stained, I'll have to see how they clean up, but nothing on the seats

Just before Christmas 09, I bought an 1985 BJ70 that I was going to restore, had serious rust issues but the frame was decent and the driveline ran well, and I got it for a decent price, no work was started on the '85 so when I got the '86, the '85 moved down to a "parts" truck status. If only I had a crystal ball. The slider window holders are in good shape, on the '85 as are all the door seals and the interior is good, & complete. I'll get some Krown in around the front windshield to slow the rust down until I get it painted later on.

I also aquired a few new parts from Toyota and 4 Wheel in Edmonton (great guys) in anticipation of restoring the '85. Even managed to get the front inner wheel well rubber skirts. I'll keep these things as spares, having owned a FJ55 and FJ40 back in the mid 80's through to the early 90's I know all about what can happen in the bush on a weekend. The truck also has a "Lock Right" rear locker and the original operators manual. Dave also threw in the repair manuals ...no charge.

Thanks again Dave!

Arm & Hammer, I still haven't had time to asess what I need or don't need, PM me, and let me know what you need, if it's obvious I need it or want to keep it, I'll let you know. I want to keep the parts truck running so I'm not selling any engine parts. I paid 10k for the 86'. Dave's asking price. I found it on used Ottawa. com or ca. It was posted for over a month but the picture wasn't clear and it looked like it was pretty rough, when I called him he said that he oiled it yearly and what I thought was backyard body work was actually oil residue. I was over there pretty quick. Couldn't talk him down. With what body repairs and parts cost, I figure I got a deal.
Foreal Boreal - she has 230k on her.

Cool finds , Cant wait to see the resto pics. Thanks for posting.

Capitalguy! Make sure you keep oiling that bad boy! My truck had a diligent owner and then a guy who flipped it after a year. Even that one year without oil started A few problems. Even though most of your truck is oily there will be spots where the oil has dried or washed off. This is where your perfect truck will quickly start rusting. Keep up the hard work!!
