Hello I am interested in a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser but I'm seeking help with the pros and cons. I have a limited budget and he's asking $4,000. He says the condition is fair besides the issue that it was a seized motor. I appreciate the help.

Did he mentioned an issue with rolling and flipping it or is that part of bidding next to the car?
Might be an ideal project to replace engine, repair engine might not be worth it, engine might continue for a long time without issues.

just test drive a few before buying, as a rule never buy the first one, don't trust sales talk:
-never wheeled = wheeled till it dropped
-new clutch = wheeled and did not know what to do so used clutch al the time
-from old lady = Jung guy with no clue about maintenance
-hardly used = because lemon and always trouble

here is a link to the maintenance manual, that is basis stuff and not the worn out brake-disk and all:

Good luck finding one! :steer:

$4K is a lot for a non-running 60 series. It would have to be damn near perfect except for the engine for me to bite. Sad thing is, without a running engine you won't get to test things like the steering and brakes until you have spend some coin to get a powerplant in there. I would walk away if it were me.

How limited is your budget? If you can barely afford a $4K vehicle, are you prepared for all the money it is going to take to get it (and keep it) going? Or is this a long term project?

Wow thank you so much!

Walk away

$4k with a blown engine? Crack pipe.

Normally I find myself thinking that people on this site think everything is too expensive, and a big reason is that I'm in the Northeast and things cost more, especially because the Rust has claimed many comrades. That being said, I agree with the consensus on this one. 4K for a non-running truck is unreasonable unless the body and interior is perfect. Too many variables. Walk away.
