My latest purchase ... a non-running 1hz 1985 troopy. A bit different to my fj40.

My question is, what gearbox and transfer are easiest to find that will bolt straight in or with some work obviously. The 1hz is mounted so it'll need a clutch too, any recommendations?

Its running twins tanks and has been repainted over the last few years. Interior is immaculate. Frame and underbody have been painted and sealed. Pretty much all is needed is some drive shafts, gearbox, transfer, clutch, and also to get the 1hz running with the wiring all set. Has the rear disc brake conversion too.

This is a big change from my 2f but ill have a go, also is in Aus NSW, anyone had any dramas getting these bad boys engineered?

It came with the H55F so being in Aussie you should be able to find the complete running gear and other bits from a 75 ser easy.Nice vehicle !

Was the engine fitted by the previous owner? You need a gearbox from a HZJ75. I cant see it being a problem to get lic. They wanted to see the engine mount welds, fuel line connections, exhaust etc on mine.
These swaps are not usually a problem because the HP and weight of the engine is still close to the original.

Yes, the motor is fitted with all new mounts and was fitted by the previous owner, who has built many of these trucks so I assume it's in good nick. What exhaust are you runningRosco?? Would wreckers have these gearbox or would i need to source a private owner ? Either way i don't mind

I dont know what the exhaust is , whether its a an aftermarket or OEM. But its certainly not a hot rod exhaust. My advice on the gearbox is find one that needs a rebuild cheap and get it rebuilt. Any gearboxes out of dismantled landcruisers are bound to have done 400000klms.
Where to get one? Well I would just get on the phone and keep asking. They are getting hard to get and they wont be cheap. Too many of them got chewed up in WA/QLD mines.
