OK, time to part with my 60
I've owned it since 1998 @143k. All work has been performed by me(except for machine work), I am a professional fabricator.
1984 fj60 w/3b (T) h55f conversion done @214k now has 270k
Full OME med/heavy suspension
custom ARB style front bumper w/8274 winch
custom rear bumper
custom HD roof rack w/ full gutter support
Raised sleep platform for rear (needs new plywood)
Cargo barrier
Frame is totally solid. It has been rock blasted by Colorado back roads, so it basically has no paint on it but also nothing but light surface rust even in the prone spots.
The body has some lite rust( for a 60).
Passenger rear wheel well is the worst and I have wire wheeled it out so you can see the extent.
Lower tailgate has some rust.
body mounts on the inside @ rear wheel wells have some rust.
Lots of little dings and rock chips on body, but generally looks good for age/mileage.
Interior, not so great, Colorado sun has done its due, cracked dash and door panels. Seats Don't have rips but are not original.
Engine wiring could be cleaned up but is totally functional and never failed.
Steering is tight, drives and stops straight.
Good tires Toyo A/T
H55f 5sp trans has leak @ input shaft holds 5th gear 99.9% only comes out at perfect neutral throttle and hit a bump, hasn't changed in 58k
New front brakes (rear completely done @220k)
New front wheel bearings
New front axle seals (all)
New SS brake lines
New clutch MC
Engine:
Overall mileage unknown
1987 3b from a bj70 24v w/ Vanner 60A battery balancer
The head cracked after aprox 20k of my use. It ran great up till then, started @-10f on the 1st try.
So, I sourced a late model 3bII head (better cooling and longer valve springs) and fabricated a turbo setup (T3 from a Mercedes).
At that time (232k on the clock) in went:
New 3bII head and valve cover
New Toyota valve springs
New pre cups
Rebuilt injectors
New aux oil cooler
Used T3 Turbo
New Toyota clutch (pilot, throw out, disc, pressure plate)
After all that the engine never started the same again, it would smoke and chug for 10-20 sec then smooth out. When warm it starts with just a bump of the starter and doesn't smoke at all. It ran smoother and had more power (duh... turbo) and never used oil. The cylinders looked great, no scoring, no lip and you could still see cross hatching.
So, 38k later (present)I decided to do a ring job, compression was aprox 270psi +or- 10 (keep in mind I live @ 8000ft ele). The cylinders still look great, I checked the bore...all good, so. In went New pistons, rings, wrist pins and bushings. I also checked mains and con rod bearings, crank journals, all perfect. Put it all back together... 3k later same story, starts poor, runs great, compression about the same, but now uses some oil.
So you can run it as is and it might break in (I have my doubts) It will start better at a lower elevation, but compression, adjusted for altitude it is just barely in spec even though most of this engine is practically new. Or pull it and put new sleeves in it and be done... a nearly new 3b(t).
I think that is full disclosure... whew
Lots of good stuff, if some one has the time it will make a great rig.
I just no longer have the time and have too many other projects calling.... I will regret.
Price 1st 5800.00 takes it (and some extras)
Please serious only, I'm happy to answer any questions, and furnish any requested photo's, but if you don't have the cash or are just curious don't waste mine or your time. I'm just too busy.
Cheers,
Andy
