I wish I had the personality that would let a project sit. I am all in until done. It’s annoying.

Yeah, I never quit working on it... in my mind at least, I lost plenty of sleep.

I finally convinced myself that I ran out of talent. So I'm to have to pony up and pay to have it painted. Then I can take control of the reins and finish.

Depends on what your goal is for the finished rig, trail rig, do it yourself. Something to take to the car show, well, sub it out.

I doubt that lack of talent is the problem.

I really have opened a can worms.

Zymurgy's First Law of Evolving System Dynamics : Once you open a can of worms, the only way to recan them is to use a larger can.

Déjà je dois t expliquer que ma cabine du fj40 est en très bonne état et celle du fj80 est complètement rouille et je veux avoir des ressor sur l arrière alors je veux placer mon châssis fj80 sur ma cabine fj40

Good Luck, visit multiple shops and choose wisely. If you can find a painter that appreciates that your rig isnt a hot rod or muscle car, youll be a step ahead of the game.

We pulled our 72 from the first shop because they were just trying to get it out of there and were not paying attention to detail. Our current painter might be overkill but will not do the work unless he does it to the best of his ability.

I took my 73 to the local Maaco (only place that agreed to do the work) as they have a decent reputation for painting old vehicles. A week later after they had started on my FJ40 the decided they were done and tossed me and my vehicle off their property without finishing it. Still can’t find anyone to do a bit of body work and paint it. These aren’t large vehicles and they came from the factory wavy and covered in runs so who expects perfection?

@Jdc1, it has been a while since I have been on mud.. but I thought you where pretty much done with painting your truck??

@Trailortrash sorry about your luck. I went down that road too with Maaco. I think they just want to turn and burn those paint jobs and don't have any time for anything else..

It has been a long process, to get comfortable with the PRICE and believe in the person that is going to paint my truck.

This guy painted a truck for my buddy at work and WOW, it was straight!! He did a color change on a 1 ton Dodge dually with a regular 8 foot bed and fender flares. I was really impressed with his work! I got his number and called him and we hit it off. Needless to say he is going to do a hell of a lot better job than me.

@rkymtnflyfisher What's up!! Are you still out west? Are you still liking it? I hate to ask ya know, cause Im sure it sucks.. not having any neighbors for miles and miles..... living so far from town the only lights you see are from the stars... spending time with Mother Nature, fishing and hunting. Yeah, terrible, just terrible....probably boring too.

We were at the painters and they were working us in and out of the schedule. We fit and refit hardtop and doors a few times to make sure they fit after every stage. Using parts off of different trucks made the process take alot longer than expected. It also took a while to repair the first shops metalwork.

This Friday I'm taking my truck to the painter. So, I have been working on my trailer making sure it is in top condition to haul such precious cargo.
