I just bought a '79 FJ40 that is in pretty good running condition BUT the previous owner converted the truck to propane. I'm in need of (a 'mentor') someone I can get information / photos of how certain engine parts were connected (like vacuum hoses, fuel pump, air cleaner, etc.). I plan on converting back to gas. I might have a question and would hope to have someone I could ask by phone, email, text, etc. I live in NC near Boone. Any help would be much appreciated.

Welcome. You'll find everything you need here on MUD - the trick is learning how to search and having patience while you do. Dive into the 40's section in the main forum. The Hardcore Corner section would probably be good to see how people have converted TO propane then you can reverse engineer things.

I'm rockin' the Toyolet, myself, so I can't offer much your way in terms of first hand experience or pics, but believe me that it's probably already all on here somewhere.

give Ramon a shout he went from gas to propane and now is running a 2FE motor. He would be the one among us who most likely has the most info on a pane powered 2F

Pull all the 'pane stuff off. You'll need a base plate and carb. Fuel pump goes on the p.s. of the block - there is likely a diamond shaped block off plate there now with 2 m8 (12mm head) bolts in it's place now. Then, IIRC, all you need is to remove all the smog stuff (air pump and EGR bits), plug the 4 air ports in the head with Toyota p/n 90340-14001. Again IIRC, you will only need to run the vacuum from the carb base plate to the distributor, full manifold vacuum to the brake booster, and call it a day. '79 should no longer require inspection this year, so it should be pretty simple.

For the fuel, there is a supply line to the side of the carb from the fuel pump and a return line that plumbs back to the tank. If you are going to run a charcoal canister and the vapor separator at the tank, it's a bit trickier and you'll need the diagram. I may just vent my through an external air filter, but haven't made it quite that far yet.
