Decent shape. Approx 105k mikes. Owned it for 14 years. Titled as an 1980 but VIN designates it as a 1979.

Nice reliable truck with some body issues. PA state safety inspection through Aug 2015. Hardtop is off but it is in nice shape. Rear ambulance doors in great shape. Best top Supertop is semi-functional but beat up.

Has the rear heater. It works.

Has radio/CD/MP3 running through door speakers and also a jeep speaker series nicely affixed to the roll bar upper hoop.

Frankly this is one of the better speaker solutions for the FJ40 I think.

Also has SOR Bikini Extreme top.

Interior is pretty nice. Some scuffs on the dash pad but the seats are in great shape.

Slight leak from rear engine seal.
Steers, Drives and stops nicely.
FWD and hi and lo work nicely.

Will post more info as time permits. If you want to see something please be specific and I will try to accommodate you. This was a Cool Cruiser rehab from approx 1998. Hence the "hell for Stout" front bumper. Truck is in Western PA. Many thanks for looking.

PM sent

Nice rig and priced right! GLWS

Many thanks! All PMs replied. Should be able to post a photo documentary by tomorrow.

Trying to respond to multiple PMs as efficiently as possible for all. Truck is in Ligonier, PA about 1.25 hours east of Pittsburgh. I can show it as follows:

Tomorrow January 1 up through 3pm. The earlier the better.
Saturday January 3 after noon.
Sunday January 4 until 1pm (out the door at 2pm).

If you would like to see the vehicle feel free to PM and I will give specific directions and telephone number. Many thanks

(I am still going to post up some more photos and details).

Seats in great shape. See the floor pans they look worse than they are -- they are not thin in any spots. The left front fender has a spot of bondo to eliminate a hole I would just replace the fenders they are so cheap and easy to replace.

This is the worst spot on the truck

. I bondo'd a hole to pass PA inspection. Not pretty.

Rear sill Chanel requires replacement. Good news!! The frame metal is as sound as can be!
image.webp

Let me orient you. You are looking up at the class III hitch receiver and the metal below the bad channel. This metal is stout.

Good grief here we go with some more five at a time photos.
Let's start with my flippin sweet Birdwell and Bultaco stickers. Just kidding. If you were born after 1970 this means nothing to you. Spicoli. There also is a Penton sticker but you cannot see it.

What can I say? The rear sill is crap. And the qtr panel is not on a different continent.

Note the bondo spot at the bottom of the cowl and of course the running board and fender. The latter two are pretty simple. Just bolt on new stuff!

This sticker is not a political statement. I'm in favor of ecology and I guess driving a 1979 vehicle makes up for the poor gas mileage!! Peace out.

Let's have a look at the inside.

Now looking down at the sill.

I'm getting dizzy. Look away for a moment.

This floor is solid. Yes, it is.

Answering some questions for everybody. I have ignored most of the questions as to which an answer is clearly visible from the first post or the photographs (but I have privately answered those too):

1. The paint is original except of course where I show the fiberglass bondo. I have tried to show the worst in the photos rather than concentrating on the best.

2. The paint on the frame rails is original but as you can see is not full coverage. At least there is zero sign of its having been re-painted and the same goes for the body panels. I have not found any spot of frame rail rust through/holes/etc. Anyone inspecting the vehicle is of course welcome to probe.

3. The outriggers for the running boards are solid.

4. The rear engine seal leaks slightly but not enough to warrant a tear apart until the engine needs other work.

5. The engine runs fine and pulls strong. I am not an expert but I would expect a clutch to be required in maybe the next 10k miles. It does not overheat or consume oil. The exhaust exits out the back as it should.

6. The turn signals front and rear are SOR aftermarket. I might have the originals somewhere but the posts of the fronts were really rusty and the seals were shot and the lenses were not as good as you would like.

7. The brakes were done about 500 miles ago. I have a receipt somewhere detailing the work it was certainly lines and pads/shoes but also as I recall some other work. Not full disc or caliper replacement. It drives straight.

8. I do not have the original front bumper. One of the fog lights in front is blown but I have two rather cheap replacements that the new owner can have. They look fine they just are not likely to light up the night like some SuperOscars.

9. The hard top is sweet. The headliner is intact but of course faded etc. The rear doors are basically perfect. The seat belts are functional.

10. I would say that the truck has maybe a 2.5" lift. It has the typical FJ40 slight lean.

11. The tires are in good shape. The battery is one year old.

12. The heater/blower works. The radio works. The windshield wipers work. The horn works. The lights work. The cigarette lighter does not.

13. It has a hitch receiver and the plate and frame are still solid.

14. Sorry I will not "hold" the vehicle with a downpayment unless it is part of an irrevocable agreement to purchase (that is, I will not take the vehicle off the market while you try to find the cash or ask your wife or decide whether you really want it). I am happy to hold the vehicle if for whatever reason you deide you want it sight unseen. I do not offer buyer financing. I wil not sell to anyone under 18.

15. I warmly welcome in-person inspections.

16. I will be as open as possible but the transaction is on an as-is, where-is basis.

17. I will not under-report the transaction price for purposes of sales tax.

To bad you are on the opposite site of the country, this is a great Cruiser at the right price. The kind of project that is in reach for almost everybody.

GLWS

Many thanks. It has been a good vehicle to me for 14 years. I think the buyer will be happy. Regards, John

Nice rig. And nice hoist setup.
You insert the long pieces after the top is up to take the weight off of the ropes/brackets?

Thanks.

Thanks! No that is a rectangular frame that distributes the weight of the roof across four somewhat large areas. The only better support is one I made from 2x6's but that requires the roof to sit on the floor and take up a lot of real estate.
