Didn't seem to have much play, about 80 k on the truck it came from

I’ve never heard of using a press. That could be worrisome. I’ve only ever used a puller.

If you’re not worried about salvaging the arm, I’d venture it’s safer to put a deep cut in the far side of the circle of the pitman arm and to crack it with a cold chisel to pop it off.
