For Sale: 1978 FJ40 LandCruiser.
I am looking to sell my FJ40, I have owned it for about 6 months. I have put less than 200 miles on it . It runs fine, it is not plagued with many of the typical Cruiser issues, yet has a few that most do not. This was a South American Cruiser so although it is a 1978, it has drum brakes all around, and it has plates instead of lockouts. It is about as rust free as they come (I am no expert, but it is in incredible shape).
It has 72000 miles on it, it is complete except for the cig lighter/ash tray, don't know if it ever had it, but it does not now. It also has no sun visors.
It appears to be completely original, never any paint or body work, no modifications at all. Has original Toyota floor mats throughout, I don't think that it has ever been worked on at all, there is a grease build up on the knuckles, and around the transmission. I suspect it was not used or ran at all in many, many years as most of the rubber, and seals are very dry and brittle.
It is very slow, 60 MPH is about as fast as it wants to go, it does not stop very well, the right rear wheel seems to brake first. Other than that every thing works, all the lights, all the gages. The guy I bought it from put a huge roof rack on it with lights, and he drilled a hole through the roof for the wires (he did seal it). He also put new tires, and wheels on it, with a spare as well. I do have the original old school wheels (split rims, I'm told that they did that in South America) as indicated by the rubber on these rims, you can see it sat for many, many years. I also have a complete frame complete with differentials that I'll throw in as well, don't know the year, but it has the little round tail lights.
I want exactly what I paid for this out of it, that being 8500.00
The vehicle is located in Oklahoma City Oklahoma.
I will get photo's and send them as requested, bare with me as I am not too knowing when it comes to things like that.
Feel free to e-mail me at les.hamlin@us.army.mil.
