I don't think I've ever posted something I found on Hemmings but this one strikes me as a very fair priced 2F 78 Hardtop FJ40. Great color, nice body, not too modified, not sure if the old AC works but there is a video on the site with more details. Let me know what you think

$22,900

  • Seller’s Description:
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, a well-optioned truck with power steering, power brakes (front disk) and air conditioning (and like all late FJ40s, it has the 2F engine and four-speed manual transmission). This truck is finished in an attractive off-white a bit lighter than the ubiquitous Dune Beige, but not a bright white. Paint and body show to a good driver standard with minor wear typical of an older repaint and some rust in the door bottoms, but none that we can find in the tub, floors or cab corners. Meaty Toyo 35x12.50 all-terrain tires on alloy wheels.
The interior shows well with seats, door panels, dash, steering wheel and headliner all in good condition. A roll bar and three-point front seat belts are a nice safety measure. Tuffy locking center console with modern stereo and cupholders. All gauges and lights are working properly.
Under the hood is a Toyota 2F 4.2 liter inline six mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. The truck also has power disc brakes, power steering and A/C. It starts, runs and drives well - engine feels strong, gearbox feels good, steering and brakes feel just as they should. Service within the last four years has included a new alternator and voltage regulator, new intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, new power steering hoses, new HEI distributor with electronic ignition, new clutch slave cylinder, and more.
For more information about this 1978 Land Cruiser FJ40 available at Motorcar Studio in Atlanta, please call 404-692-5250.

That was a very warm start. I don't blame him.
Looks like a CCOT upper dash pad cover.
Is that an extra lower dash pad cover shoved in the radio hole?

interesting, never seen that done before

So new springs on the front, but not the back. Shocks are old too? Why not update it all unless you are cutting corners. Front axle in desperate need of a rebuild. Seals are toast. Overall looks pretty clean underneath. Low levels of rust in the pics. Body in decent shape. Price doesn’t seem crazy in this market.

I see a lot start out at 30k like this, have no idea where they sell at. It's refreshing to see a dealer put something up that's priced appropriately. But likely they did it on accident lol

Agreed, I'm looking to add another like that one. Very few out there in decent condition/price

Question: I've seen a lot of post about "realistic" prices etc. Doesn't the market set the realistic price? And I'm asking this to understand better cause like I've said, I've seen quite a few post stating the same thing.

I have seen a couple of "good deals" ($5-$10k less than most, from the same dealer and they are always sold before they post.

The story I was told on a very nice reputable Mud member restored Rustic Green ~78' listed for ~ $30k's, (he typically sells his trucks for $60k+) was it sold to one of their regular customers prior to hitting the website.

My guess was they listed the truck at their actual selling price and it helps get a few more clicks etc., maybe you see something else you like or they can add you to their database next time.

When I called on this particular one yesterday morning, I was told a deal was in place from the previous day. (Before it ever showed up on Mud)

I have a 98% original 1978 Smurf that passed smog on the first try in CA, and that has been totally looked through with under 75,000 miles on it, and would NEVER take anything under 60 grand for her. And even that is a stretch lol
