SOLD
I think it is time to let my 40 go and pick-up a different Land Cruiser (incurable TLC disease
). Relevant information is below, but please don’t hesitate to ask questions or contact me.
Cruiser: 1978 FJ40 w/ 80k miles
Price: $6,000 obo
Location: Charlotte, NC
Contact Info: PM or brettschell at gmail dot com or Seven 0 Four - Three Zero Two - 4942
Picture Link: Picasa Web Albums - Brett Schell - FJ40 For Sale
Here Are Some Highlights:
Has a rebuilt 2F out of a 82 (approx. 6,000 miles since rebuild)
SOR Header
Weber 38/38
New Fuel Pump
New Master Cylinders for Clutch and Brake
New Alternator
2" HFS Lift
2" Anti Reversible Shackles (greaseable)
Transmission and Transfer Case Rebuilt
Rebuilt Rear Diff
Rhinolined Tub
New Radiator
Warn Bumper (no winch)
34x10.50 TSLs with approx. 1,000 miles on them (5)
Hard Top is in Great Shape (top liner came out, though I still have it)
Paki Soft Top and Bows (canvas top is new and hasn’t been installed)
SOR Bikini Top
Solid frame with no rust problems (was always pretreated/sprayed with rust prevention)
The Bad:
There is some rust on the rear tub. The rear sill needs to be replaced and there are a few other places rust is coming through, please see the pictures below and the album link. I would be happy to take any more pictures of these problem areas.
All the electrical has been redone with new fuse blocks but there is still a slight issue with headlights and blinker not working at the same time on occasion. There are a couple of areas inside where the rhinolining is flaking off. It is missing the transfer case knob right now but I can pick another up.
The brakes are “grabby” when you first start driving. I usually just cruise around the block with slight pressure on the brake to clear it up. After the initial drive they are fine and work great. It is as if moisture gets in the drums or they are just cold and need adjusting.
Summary:
I think that this 40 is a damn solid truck and I daily drive it a lot even while wearing a suit to work. My wife drives is as well. Apart from the issues highlighted above and mainly the rust, it is a very good cruiser, with a lot of work done on it and some great ad ons. I believe that some of the guys in ONSC and Liam (used to to be his!) will vouch for this 40. I think that I have priced it fairly but open to offers.
