For Sale 1977 Celica GT Liftback

I am floating the idea of selling the Liftback ahead of my upcoming move to Va. I don't need to sell it, don't want to sell it, but it will simplify things greatly.

The car has ~96K on the clock and runs great. Has the stock 20R and 5-Speed gearbox. It is a man's car, no PS or AC. Imported from Canada with a clean NC title. This was the last year of this body style and are haed to find in on-molested condition. Here is a breakdown on the condition.

The car had sat in a garage for 13 years before the PO performed the engine bay restoration 6 years ago. The car has about 6000 miles on it since it was back running and its only been a fair weather driver for me.

Exterior: Original paint, has some bubbles starting but no holes. The inner lip if the rear wheel wells have some rust that needs to be cut out. I was planning on cutting it out and rolling the lip on the fender wells, just haven't had the time or access to the tools. There's a few dings but its in very reasonable shape. It is definitely ready for a re-paint, which is what I will do to it if I don't sell. It has the halogen conversion, and the safety bumpers were replaced with the non-USA smileys. These were sourced from Australia - chrome is very good with no rust. The glass has a light blue factory tint.

Wheels are Konig rewinds with Toyota centers. These have BFG Radial T/As on them and they're a great performer. The GT stripe is original and it still has the dealer option of the rub strip.

Interior: Original seats, carpet, floor mats, dash etc. and working Toyota Cassette. Headliner was replaced as it was sagging and the shifter boot was as well as it was cracked. It has the original shifter knob. There is no crack in the dash or any of the upholstery.

The ESP system works and will tell you if the battery is low, rad fluid needs attention, booster needs attention, brake pads are too thin etc. The only problem is the Radiator sensor acts up occasionally. Also, the backlight on a couple of the gauges intermittently go out, granted I don't drive it at night that much:p

Engine:The PO had the head off the stock 20R to replace the head gasket ( precaution only) and redid the oil pan gasket, replaced the water pump, thermostat and all rubber. The rad is new, and brake, and clutch cylinders are new. The booster is new. All wheel cylinders and calipers are new. Fuel pump is new and comes with a genuine new replacement. Clutch is new and is a centerforce clutch. The carb is rebuilt and I have a rebuilt spare. I ordered brand new factory hose clamps to replace the not so nice ones and decals where necessary. It has a brand new 2.25 custom exhaust with magnaflow stainless 6" can, 4" stainless resonator and stainless tip (sounds great - not tinny but rumbly.

Driveline and Suspension:The PO replaced all fluids - there are no leaks. Rear shocks have been replaced with Tokico performance units and I have new strut bearings and performance struts for the front.

Parts: I have pile of spare resto parts, and some odds and ends mechanical parts. I have all new NAPA steering linkage parts, new weatherstrip for the side windows and liftgate glass which are needed for the repaint due to the age of the existing weatherstrip. I also have a set of the Celica/Supra allow wheels that are in PC right now and will put those on instead of the Rewinds if you want. Also I have a spare windshield.

All in all, the car is in great shape. Fun little RWD car that definitely turns heads and gets a lot of questions.

$4300 takes it, serious inquiries only and no trades, sorry;) PM with questions or more pics. As soon as I have the time, I will get pics up on photobucket.

As I said, I don't have to/Need to sell it, so I am not desparate to move it. This is just thinning the herd before I move. If Nobody snaps it up, then I keep it and get it re-painted:grinpimp:

I had a '75 coupe GT. Loved it and am starting to look for one again. Awesome cars.

Good luck with the sale.

Where in VA would this be moving to if it doesn't sell? I'm currently in the Richmond area and am strongly resisting the urge to pick your car up as another project.

Stafford/Fredricksburg area. But, if it doesnt sell by the time I leave NC in early July, it will stay in NC for the re-paint.;)

That is a really nice car. It might be blasphemy to some but I would possibly and I did say possibly
Trade/sell my 80 for this car. Just don't see them in this condition any longer.

I redid a 77 for my sister a long time ago. I loved that celica and wish she still had it. This is a very nice one. You never see them around down here in Fl.
Nice,
Ed

I cannot stop looking at this car. I really hope that if you do find a buyer that they appreciate what this car is and if not that it stays in your hands for many years to come as I can tell you appreciate the car. Just don't respray it. It may look different in person but from the pics it looks great and IMO should be left alone.

Dont worry, if I keep it, the shop doing the paint does phenomenal work. It overall is in great shape but you can tell the original paint is getting tired. Plus I will pull some of the bits and pieces from the underside and powdercoat. This will fix all the little stuff popping up and get it back to stock shininess.

On a side note, I just got the Celica/Supra alloys back from powder coat. They look very nice and will look sweet on the car;)

Alex, I have no doubt that you will put a proper paint job on this car. I just happen to like petina. That's just me though. The supra wheels look good. My mother had a 73' celiac gt when I was a kid and I have always had a soft spot in my heart for celica gt's and supra's.

Fantastic car......a real gem!

My apologies for littering up your thread.

No worries man, I appreciate the compliments:cheers:

The patina does look nice, but the little bit of surface rust needs to be taken care of before it gets a foothold. The big issue is whether they can salvage the GT stripe:hhmm:

Got the factory 14x7 alloys back from powder coat got the wheels back under the fenders. The Rewind's offset was just a little too wide.

Do you still have the rewind rims? Would they be included in the sale?

The rewinds are gone, used the cheddah to pay for the alloy powdercoat;)

I have replied to all PMs, will offer it up as you are in line

Thanks for the interest:cheers:

It is tentatively sold pending funds, if the primary drops out I'll let the people in line know.

Thanks
