I have a 1976 California FJ40 that I would like to trade for another FJ40. This post is for gauging interests and sawzall activity. I have been looking for a 40 to turn into a street legal rock-crawler of sorts and ended up purchasing this one. It has one spot on the rear sill where rust is starting to show. NO other rust on entire cruiser. There are a few dings and small dents, nothing major at all. Cruiser is all original and intact, including smog legal 2F, factory jack, owner's manual, and uncut wheel wells. Interior vinyl is shot, interior paint still looks new. 112,000 miles, been in the High Desert since 1982. Originally purchased in Thousand Oaks so it has not traveled too far.

My plans are to get rid of that pesky sheet metal (including uncut wheel wells), find some different gearing, SOA, and wheel the snot out of it. I would rather trade it for 2F fj40 that has rust or body trimming. I am not a purist but would like to keep an unmolested cruiser unmolested. If anyone may be interested in a restoration vehicle for trade for a rock smashing vehicle, let me know. Market value of this cruiser in current, running condition would be about $4500. I am waiting on keys and won't be able to trade for one month.

Vehicle not for outright sales, I'd rather have an fj40 than money right now.

I'm in Hesperia, cruiser came from Apple Valley. I'll wait to post more pics this weekend or so when I clean all the dirt and cobwebs out of it, fluff it up. I have the inside pretty stripped from doing rust patrol and have not put it back together again. The manifolds and accessories are all off right now. This post was for gauging interests. The interests will determine how and when it gets reassembled, and if I'll keep it or not. I want a 40 for the main wheeling machine but I think this is too clean to beat up. Has some light body and fender damage not apparent in far away pictures. The paint is original. Engine area super dusty right now. Everypiece is there, even if not seen in the pics. Even the center console and the orginal spare. Other pic is the rust spot.

The cruiser was sitting since 1991 because the owner didn't know how to work on cars and did not like the backfire sound it was having. He never got around to fixing it. I was going through all the basic longterm maintenance stuff, rust patrol, fluids flushed, gas lines and tank cleaned, new tune up parts, new brake rubber, hoses, belts, etc... (which I have not finished yet) Doing that I found a nice crack in the intake, indicated a pretty good likelyhood the manifold was the culprit. Exhaust manifold gasket was gone also.

I happen to have some really clean and low miles EGR compliant manifolds I was putting on. I would like to have it completely operational and smogged before trading. I am still waiting on the keys and have not started it nor tested compression yet.
Note, those tires are not included, they were the rollers I had available when I picked it up. It comes with 31" BFG AT's on white wagon wheels. Old but with good tread.
