Searched through tech section, couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for—-

1975 FJ40 with ambi doors. So I have the appropriate lower hinge mounting holes. I have sourced earlier model (1972) top sides. These tops sides are obviously missing the upper mounting holes and capture nuts for top ambi door hing mount. Can I drill holes and use custom backing plate for upper hinge mounts? I will source a new upper brace (without the lift gate hinges). Is it as simple as drilling the 4 holes on each side—- in other words, does everything else line up????

TIA

Need to source the ambulance doors header for the top. The sides are notched so the doors will fit flush. Years ago I installed hatch and hatch header from my 68 hard top in a early 78 hard top. This was only to keep the cruiser weather tight so didn't drill to mount the struts or catches. But it did fit the top perfect. Same should be the opposite way.

Currently have '81 hardtop sides on my July '74 with '74 hatch.

My tub, aside from the ambulance door holes, is the same as your tub. I've had '71 sides, '78, and now '81.

I'd sure like to have a tailgate like the one above... although it'd be completely hidden behind my tire & jerry can rack.
