1974 FJ 40. Factory Four Speed. 66,400 Miles
$11,999.00
The good:
The body is really nice. Study the pics. Original Paint. Notice in the pictures the difference in the glossy paint and the hardtop. I never buffed the hardtop because I hung it in the garage for the past 10 years.
Four Speeds. That's better than three. In late 74 the toyota gods starting putting an extra speed in there.
The motor is freaking excellent. It was rebuilt in 2003 (60,127 miles) by a Toyota Master mechanic. For Central Mississippians, it was Myron Watson. He took his time and used Toyota parts. (I got receipts!)
Pistons, rings, camshaft, lifters, cam gear, oil pump, new exhaust, rebuilt carb
Alternator was rewound and radiator cored at that time.
Little things were done then... dash bulbs, replace rubber around shifter, greased the speedo cable etc,
Discs on the front via a Specter or some other conversion... Wildmon? Something like that.
Yellow top battery in a two battery cage. Get yerself another battery and slap it in there.
Nice powder coated original style wheels (5 of them)
BFG AT's have less than 1500 miles on them, they are only a year or two old. Rides nice.
Drives tighter than the other 40's I have driven.
Tuffy Box with Alpine Stereo and Polk Speakers (4 Speakers) Van Halen sounds good riding down the road.
The bad:
Back brakes need attention.
The dash is cracked up.
The hardtop has a place that is rusted through near the passenger side lower corner.
The back door hatch handle is gone.
All the door and hardtop rubber needs a reset.
The front bumper looks like garbage.
Some Jackass cut the back fenders. Yes, yes he did.
I haven't located two of the door pins so it is being help in with an awl. Until I find that pin.
I would rather not have protracted conversations with you about the one you had or the one you wish you had or what you would do to this one or whatever. I am selling this thing that means a lot to me because I have too many requirements of my time now. So please talk to me if you are serious about actually purchasing this truck.
I want a handshake right of first refusal if the day comes that you are selling it.
Here's a dropbox link that will let you really check it out:
