1972 FJ55 For Sale SF Bay Area-lower price-$6500!

Sherman the Family Tank is up for sale. We are moving on to new projects and have a daughter going to college so Sherman needs a good, new home. Sherman is set up as an expedition/camping vehicle and has served us well.

Thanks for all the interest and advice. Based on some of this good, friendly advice, I have decided I have been a bit too proud of all the work that I cannot expect to get back out of the vehicle. It is very tough to set a price on something that has nothing to compare it to. That said, I believe the lower price is very reasonable for the condition of Sherman and the equipment that is coming with.

Please review the pics and see what we have done to make Sherman the Family Tank a great vehicle.

$6500 or close offer. SOLD!

Will even consider partial trade for expedition gear for FZJ80 (bumpers, sliders, roof rack, rooftop tent, 9K winch, etc.)

You can see the build thread with photos: https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-iron-pig-preservation-society/153628-rebuilding-our-tank.html

Here are some highlights good and bad:

Still needs attention:
Some rust on roof rear corners; some rust on lower corners behind rear wheels; some rust behind front wheels on both sides. Nothing out of control, but could use some eventual repair
Head liner serviceable but has some tears
Front doors could use some hinge bushings
Runs a bit rich at start up

Some spare parts come with the sale.

Thanks norcalsvx, but can't afford another vehicle right now. Trying to cull the herd.

Any idea of realistic mpg; lightly loaded w/ 1 new owner & 1 duffle bag, road tripping 1800 miles back to East Texas?

Is this one of those "hop in this thing and drive it anywhere" cruisers? Or would it only make since to bring my trailer?

I believe about 15 mpg city; 18 mpg highway, maybe better without two kids, a dog, a wife, camping gear, food, beer and a mad dash to get out of town for the weekend.

I have trusted this vehicle to transport my family across the Sierras and down the Pacific Coast Highway. That being said I would be prepared for contingencies. I personally would drive it across the US. I would pack spare parts and a gas can just in case.

Shoot, that's better than the 100.

I'm thinking about it. I need it like a hole in the head.

With 4.56s, 33s, and the 4 speed, does it like 70 mph? Most of my 40's haven't.
Can you please post (or PM) pics of the rust spots, cargo area, & front seats. Not interested in trades right?

Thanks,

Rich

Rust holes here are temporarily filled with epoxy putty. This body mount is the only rust I can find other than on the body. Not catastrophic, but should be repaired some time. This is the only real damage to body. Caused by old stock bumper bending into body. I have replaced old bumper with a fj55 front bumper.
