Hello,

Putting up for sale my 1972 FJ40 located near Cleveland, Ohio. Purchased about 4 or 5 years ago from PA. The 40 spent a significant part of its life in AZ before going to PA, told that it was always garaged in PA. I bought as a daily driver, but it was too nice for me to drive through the winters so it has spent most of its life in Ohio in storage. When it was not in storage, I had the original axles swapped with 80's model FJ axles with 370 gears and now 4 wheel disc brakes from JT/Outfitters & Specter Off-Road. I also added new 33 x 10.5 x 15 BF Goodrich A/Ts with 80's original steelies to accommodate disc brake offset.

The engine starts right up, and has strong oil pressure. I am doubtful that it is the original engine, in fact the prior owner in PA thought it was the larger 2F engine, but I never confirmed. The odometer shows around 75,500 miles. Some of the gauges are not working properly on the dash. The roll-bar is not secured nor are there any jump seats.

Parts that will accompany the car include the original drum axles with 411 gears (front and rear) with the drum brakes, white soft top, and brackets, never used, original drum steelies, and a some manuals. Asking $17,000.

Thanks for looking. If your interested, send me a pm/email. Thanks again all.

John

Hey there is your FJ still for sale?
I'd like more detail pictures, if you have them?
Any/all rust that the FJ's are known for having in the typical spots?
What are the gauges that don't work?
After you changed over to all disc brakes, did you also change or mod any of the valving up front on the brake system?
I own a 71 FJ project and looking for one that I too can use as a daily driver.
Thanks in advance /Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your interest. Still for sale, this is the only place I have it listed. Hope to get it on Hemmings in the next week or so. The temperature and oil pressure gauges are currently not working. I have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge rigged to the dash that shows good pressure at idle or going down the road.

As for rust, there a two small spots on the inside of the cab where the roll bar would bolt down. The rear bed near the back doors does not look original, so it was likely had some work done at one time. I will try to post pics of both spots. As for the undercarriage/frame, it is pretty clean with only surface rust that I can see. It appears to have been undercoated years ago and the floor boards have what looks like POR 15 or equivalent was added as well many years ago, very solid. I looked at a lot of FJ's before buying this one and I would rate this as an A-/B+. For me, the body, frame, etc. was too nice for me to drive daily here in Ohio.

I wish I were both talented enough and had the time to do the brake/axle swap myself. However, I had the work done by a third-party. The master cylinder still appears to be original, although it could be that a proportioning valve was added. The brake system works better than my 2015 four door wrangler that I bought last year.

I hope this helps, will try to get some pics posted.

Thank you Wngrog. I am hoping it will go to a good home. :)....but hopefully not a neighbor that I would see it everyday, making me regret my decision....:bang:

Thank you for your thoughts Jim. I was told that the 2F also had the aluminum casting valve cover (which is shown in the picture) and instead of a stamped metal cover of the 1F for what its worth. I do not know if the aluminum casting cover and stamped metal were interchangeable or not? If not, this might also suggest the 2F engine.

Thanks again Jim.
