I have found a low mile 24 valve 1HDFT engine out of an 80. My mechanic wants to swap it for the 1f that’s just been lovingly restored. 🤦‍♂️
Let’s see how this goes…

That’s a nice looking truck! I like the color!

Don't do it.

The whole thing has cost a fortune but the 1hdft is superb and would make it pretty unique

I would have thought in the land of Land Rovers any FJ40 would be unique? Few I seen from England were all imported second hand. What transmission are you using? Original three speed transmission would make sense to keep. Do you plan to keep the PTO winch? Would need a different PTO with anything transfer case older than 7/80. 11/84 Toyota switched to a single direction PTO. You use your current PTO with a single direction PTO it cables out on all forward gears in the transmission and only cable in while in reverse. The split transfer case started 8/80 and ended? has a two direction PTO used up to 11/84 and possibly a few models like the late 40 series. It also possible to change a worm gear in the winch to reverse the rotation.
