This truck is really nice! What size are the tires? You stated that SOR overhauled the engine....what does SOR warrantee?
Thanks

FJ40Dreamer: The tires are Goodyear Wrangler 31x10.50R15LT (5). SOR site gives this info for the Serviced engine:

"SERVICES ENGINES
All Serviced engines come with a 6 month 6000 mile warranty. These engines are sold as long blocks only. Serviced Engines are sold on an exchange basis. Serviced Engines include: complete valve job, re-ring & hone, new rod bearings, test run, and fully inspected valve train. Specter does not guarantee any bolt on accessories or sheet metal items on Serviced Engines. Valve covers, oil pans, and side covers are left on engines to protect them during shipping and are not guaranteed against leaks."

I also had a local mechanic verify the engine was serviced as advertised...yes; and it sounds great with great torque...and idles like the old saying...balance a coin on it.

Hope this answers your questions. Any other questions or for more photos, email: info@oxygenworldusa.com .

SSCR: I guess you can call it a 2-tone? The African Safari company that originally ordered it (see beginning thread) custom wanted LineX commercial protection against brush and salt corrosion on the tub only. See this Link: LINE-X Sprayon Bedliners, Protective Coatings, Truck Bed Coating, Floor Coating, Industrial Flooring

Hood, fenders, cowl, windshield, etc., all painted with Toyota beige. The protective coating was also Beige but took a different tint...looks good however, and tough as nails.

If you have any questions or for more photos email: info@oxygenworldusa.com as I am not on the computer at all times.
Thanks

Question: I may be interested in this truck; however I need an opinion. I have a buddy who bought a '69 FJ40 2 years ago for $8800 that was in fair but running original shape, except for the engine which was a v8, which he changed back to the original six. He looked at this ad and told me he had more resto cost invested (it had some rust and a bad tranny) than this truck is asking, but he said he learned his truck inside and out doing his resto. I have seen his truck recently and it does not look condition wise, near as good as the pictures on this ad. I know pictures may be deceiving, but I need some opinions? I would like to make a reasonable acceptable offer on this truck, but should I buy a cheaper one and pay more in the long run as my bud did...I do want one with the original motor and as close to original as possible?

hey rookie...this is my first post so maybe i should be rookie too. Your question seems to be the question we all ask ourselves. your limited experience mechanically may not be a bad thing, if you are willing to learn, redo, and listen to others you can be successful. These vehicles are very simple, problems will be time/money and life getting in the way. it is a huge commitment to do a frame off resto....i agree the learning and satisfaction you will get will be priceless. But if you get into a project that takes a year or 2 of all your free time if thats what it takes...that has a value too. not commenting on this fj40 in post, but it seams you can never get the time and money back u invest in a project, so there are good deals out there that poeple have put thousands and thousands they never get back. i have 2 fj40's and getting deep into one but still haven't made the frame off commitment. good luck i'm excited to hear others opinions.

I'm sorry, I'm going to stick my nose in here a bit...

This question is not really in the right venue...It really doesn't pertain to the gentleman's offering as much as it is a query about you and about "in general" theories. What do you expect him to say? "No, don't buy my truck, get a beater and build it up! You'll learn more!"?

It appears to be a really nice resto...looks very thoughtfully and exactingly done.
Get your opinions in Chat or 40's tech so as not to convolute this gentleman's For Sale thread.

To the OP, Good Luck with the Sale! Nice 40!

Gotta agree with jimbo. Also consider what you want to do with it. I wrestle all the time with the restore or refresh debate. If it's too pretty I'll spend all my time cleanning it and never want to take it off road. For me the compromise is somewhere in between. And money is way more of a factor than time IMHO. If you want someone else to do all the work be prepared to spend BIG bucks. For me personally, I can turn a wrench and I'm willing to get dirty but I lack an experienced person to guide me. If you have a friend who has done a restoration on one of these I would pick their brain as much as possible. Enjoy!

F40handicap: Trapper50cal is correct. This ad is for my truck and I agree that you should go to one of the sites on ih8mud and ask your question. We have all been there and I can tell you that what I have spent $$ on this truck over the years will blow your mind and I know I will never be able to sell it for what I have in it..never even close. I also agree with Jimbo046 "you can never get the time and money back u invest in a project, so there are good deals out there that poeple have put thousands and thousands they never get back". I would love to sell you this one, but your buddy may be able of offer you quality time while you buildup an FJ ...which may be what you would really like to do.

We have a stock 1971 FJ40. FYI, factory roll bars were not stock for that year, so I would look at the rear jump seats to see if the later model narrower jump seats were installed.

Also, I don't see any of the 4WD vacuum actuator and linkage under the hood. I would also want to see a lot of interior pics to make sure that your instrument cluster and pull knobs are there. The seats look to be recovered as the original vinyl was a charcoal gray color.

TexFJ40, I want to thank you. If anyone sees this post, I put down a sizeable deposit for this truck 3 days ago. If you keep up with the news, we had a horrible tornado come through the Harvest, Alabama area and did severe damage to our farm. I notified the above owner (name is Larry) and he immediately wired my deposit returned to my bank. I again thank you and someday, when we get back on our feet, I will again search for another hopefully equal quality FJ40 as yours. There are good people on this forum! Good luck in selling your great truck.
