I decided to sell my 1970 FJ 40 Land Cruiser. This is a July 69 build cruiser which I acquired 12 years ago and it was the first project that I posted here as a build. You can see virtually all the detail here although some of the photo bucket pictures disappeared. But I still have them.

I finished the restoration in 2001 and have been driving it ever since. I’ve made a couple upgrades by adding a 1975 2F engine with four speed with 55K, changed the diffs to 3:73. The parking break has started to drip a little fluid. Even though I put a double lip seal and sealer on the splines. It’s just what they do. Added a second long range tank, added a tailgate, put new 2 inch OME springs on it, Greaseable shackles and 31 inch wranglers. It is shown with a soft top but I have a full hardtop that is restored also. I haven’t put it on in about five years. Keen eyes will notice that the door pins are not all the way in. I do this to make it easier to remove doors which I do often. I had it over at LRC 4 x 4 to have Kramer fix some running issues with it. He did some carb work and distributor work, and I put a new fuel pump on it. Once I figured out how to start it it starts flawlessly every time. For some reason mine does not like you to step on the gas. just use the choke. I posted a video starting at the spring after sitting six months. It fired right up, no throttle just choke.
All in all it’s an excellent truck. It doesn’t look like I restored it 10 years ago. Looks like it was just done. I painted it in single stage paint because that’s what it came with and I don’t think FJ 40’s should be glass or mirror wet glossy. Personal preference. I wanted it to look basically stock but I also have upgrades for drivability and safety. I added power steering and front dis brakes, and a newer Toyota bucket seats. Add a factory oll bar which It never had, and short jump seats, shoulder belts.
Everything works, all the gauges work, speedometer, odometer, front and rear heater all work perfectly. I have a switch to move from front to rear fuel tank, and the gauge reads for both tanks. Flashers and turn signals even work with original tin can type flasher relays on both. I also upgraded to headlights with the Toyota H4 kit.
