I have this 1967 FJ40.

Super original. I have the airbox but it’s missing the wire mesh on the inside. Where could I source some new mesh or what is another solution maybe for a paper filter. I just spent an hour at AutoZone and O’Reillys playing with air filters but nothing seems to really fit.

Most likely has one … he has a $100 parts minimum to purchase for shipping … however maybe you need other stuff as well if the one part isn’t at the minimum price

Call his shop … he doesn’t like the whole PM stuff … it’s way to modern of a thing for him ;)

He’s old school

Back in 83 I bought a oiled foam air filter from Man-a-fre. Its still in there and still working. It was like a steel collider cylinder with a fitted foam sock. Slip the sock off, wash with gas, shake/wring it out. Apply oil - snot oil for filters is the best. Put the sock over the liner and put the assembly back in the filter can and you are done.

I looked at their site and this was all I found. K&N Air Filter for 1958-1974 Toyota Land Cruisers with F Engines - Landcruiser Parts - https://manafrelv.com/product/kn-air-filter-for-early-production-1974-f-series-engine-88-8-92-engine/

Google found links to air filter foam and snot oil (very sticky stuff). If mine wears out I would just make one.

So the foam looks a little weak, might not survive a cleaning - going to order some foam. They used some sort of glue to form a cylinder. I'll likely do some sort of long overlap and hand sew it to make a cylinder.

That works great for your truck. My 1967 airbox is quite different. I actually have a 69 Parts truck with a airbox similar to what you have, but it doesn’t fit over the carburetor without modification.

Not sure of a source for the original mesh in the oil bath filter. But would take a trip to the local tractor dealer parts counter. Many old tractors had oil bath filters and are still supported with parts. (Dad sold tractor parts for years). My first FJ40 had a number of ford tractor parts in it when I finally sold it.
