I am restoring a 1965 FJ45 LWB pickup and this heater was installed under the dash on the passenger side. Can anyone give me information on this? I see some FJ45s had a Toyota heater in center underdash so was this an afterthought?? Any help would be appreciated.

Another question...
Since this was a dealer add on: Did they simply provide +12V from the fuse panel, through a dealer supplied switch to the fan motor?

The two old units pictured by destin are in my rigs. The first one is in a 62 FJ40 I believe I already stripped the wiring out of. The other is in my 65 FJ45 which I don't believe I haven't touched. But it's out of town. I have at least three other heaters installed like this. Pretty sure in most cases there is just a switch mounted to the bottom of the dash and then run to the fuse panel. By 65 a Factory was a option so the wiring is probably landed to the same fuse as the stock would of used if it was dealer installed. In 66 the OEM heater was standard in the US. I should have better picture of the FJ40 I'll search and see what I can find.

Wow, that NipponDenso heater option is cool. I have never seen one and wish I had one. On my FJ45 the heater had a switch under dash, I am not sure where it was fused?

I noticed the "Do Not Sell" writing on the back of Land Pimps unit. That's either called investing or hoarding depending on your point of view... :D They are just cool devices regardless.

I don't think that Landpimp's heater was ever an FJ45 LPB standard. At least, that's not what's in my 9/64. I have the standard (for the era) center underdash, with factory screw mounts built in.

I would be interested to know if your FJ45 (is it an LPB?) has the factory center mount holes for the optional heater like mine. Obviously, the passenger side cylinder denso heater like Landpimps would have an entirely different mounting setup.

You can see that Destin's truck does not have the holes for the center setup.

Coolerman,

I will take a wild guess that the Do Not Sell was written by Marv Spector as previously part of his personal stash.

X2

Just like that H55F transmission cover he has that is for the 40 series. If I could find one of those I would put a H55F in my 45. Maybe John wants to trade it for a second Nippon Denso heater.:hhmm: Mine it just a early style from a FJ25

I have seen those center mount, under dash units on some FJ45s, and the aftermarket ones like mine, so what was the issue with the Nippondenso option one as shown for the 45?Was it rare? The FJ45 was only imported a few years I am told and now I have seen about four heater types so far?

No holes for the center heater. No vent on the passenger's side of the cowl. The fire wall does not have the bolt holes or the cut for the blower.

I wonder why the heaters were always installed over the passenger's feet instead of the center. The only reason I can think of is fresh air off the side vent for defrost. Anybody seen a operation manual for the dealer installed heater.

Pictures added

The fuse block is moved to the driver's side even though it did not have the OEM heater installed.

John, I think they mounted the dealer installed heaters on the passenger side because a. Without the seperate duct work to bring air from an external fan, they didn't need the space, and b. the non-heater models mounted the fuse box in the center of the firewall, and it was less work to install the heater elsewhere than move the fuse panel.;)

Best
