1964 FJ45 questions.......

Hi Guys, I have been dropping in on the forum for quite some time now after having it recommended to me and have searched and found much valuable info along the way. But now I have finally decided to sign up and get involved, I'll leave the formal introductions till later and fire some questions at you all. I am looking at purchasing a 1964 FJ45 to sit along side my '64 FJ40, to this point I haven't had alot to do with 45's.
Q1: Did all 1964 FJ45's have the wind out vent below the windscreen (this one doesn't).
Q2: Through searching the forum for info I found a few comments relating to the roof being removable or not and vehicles being changed to "later types" of roof, were early versions a steel top, what is the early "standard"?
Any other advice, things to check etc is all appreciated, I look forward to your feedback.

Does yours have a split rear window or solid? Split is non removable. The PO cut my roof off and I made it removable, but its pretty obvious it's not factory on close inspection. Fixed top is very rare everywhere, but I hear much more so in Oz. it's rare because it wasn't as good as removable hard tops. They didn't sell many. Much tighter cab.

You can't switch to the later removable top without switching cabs or cutting and flanging the rear panel yourself. You can get the hardware like latches and windshield hinges easily enough from later 45s and 40s and it all fits, but the top panels themselves do not.

The fixed top is about 75mm smaller in the cab and longer in the bed. The cabs have the same mount locations except for the rearmost pair. You can swap on a removable cab, but you have to change the mounts and bed.

I think fixed tops were only 62/64 in the US, 60/64 in Japan, but no idea in OZ. Lupdog has a 62 cab.

I think the removable top was available 64+.

I thought all had the vent at the bottom of the ws and individual wiper motors. Later frames do fit.

Thanks for your reply Gumby. I am going to see the vehicle again on the weekend so will know more after that, but I want to go prepared with some knowledge of what i'm looking at and bring it home if it's the right thing!
Did read the thread on Lupdogs cab, I don't think this one is that early?
I can't remember seeing any join at the rear of the cabin mid way where it could be split/removed. It has twin sliding rear windows and from what I have read is a lwb as the front of the rear spring mounts is back from the cabin. The windscreen is hinged but as mentioned has no vent but does have individual top mounted wipers. Wound imagine that if it is a fixed top that you shouldn't be able to fold down the windscreen and maybe this has been modified???

Short wheel base fixed top. Goto the first pages of my thread and later in my thread shows removable top cab. Where is it? Florida? I sold a cab and box down that way.

Looks like he's in Australia.

I've read of a fixed hard top LWB in Australia before. Don't know if it was stock or not.

The FHT cab is shorter than a removable. the mounts for the cab are in front of the rear spring hangers.

The hinges and plates have identical mounting holes. It would be an easy switch, although useless on a FHT.

I have been collecting a few pics of early 40's and 45's since I picked up my '62 cab. Most examples that I have seen of around that era, (64 and earlier), seem to have the lower windscreen vent but I do have pics of a '63 45 with no vent and a '64 40 also with no vent. I don't know interchangeable later windscreen are? That could be a possibility?

Love to see some pics if you make the deal.
