Wow...that looks really nice, but a few minor things need to be addressed for it to be a perfect restoration...still, a very, very nice rig!

That's a beauty.

Hey, Tmack thanks for the recomendation to mud. Maybe you know these questions?

Im new to mud and new to 45's. Ive owned a few 40's but Ive never been "hard core". Basically ignorant.
Ive been trying to browse around the conversations and answer some of the questions I have without asking, but I dont know my way around and know Im in the wrong area for these questions. So I figured I would stop right here and ask you guys. Hopefully in the future I will find my way around a little better. Until then I hope you guys can help.

-why did fj45 sale end in 1967 in the USA and continue in other areas such as Canada?
-are fj45's desireable or "worth anything" after 1967?
-do fj45's have 1 ton axles from the factory?

Morning Rambodog and Welcome to Mud. You have asked three very good questions.
However, I'm not nearly as knowledgeable as many of these other guy's
so I'll defer to them and learn as well as you.

Tom

-Im pretty sure FJ45 sales in the USA ended in 67 because they didnt pass roll over testing,or other safety issues. -Yes a FJ45 is always desirable. -Yes you could get a Full Float Axle from Toyota.

Here's a little additional info.

1) The end of the FJ-45 PU here was due to a few things. First they weren't nearly as popular as the 40, second there was a cap on numbers of car Toyota could import.

2) ALL FJ-45's are worth something to someone.

3) The 45 was always rated a 1 ton but the full floater didn't exist until 1975. The short answer is Toyota considered the semi floater as a 1 ton axle. In my experience the semi floater is less prone to failure.

I think there was also a bit of political pressure that viewed the pickup as needing to remain a protected domestic industry. Still is...

Just curious, anyone make any calls on this one for more info?

Ok, I called the guy, just to check it out. This is his dad's land cruiser, he is a cruiser nut but does not do internet. Go figure. This was restored by the previous owner who lived in Colorado, ran into money problems and the "family" bought this truck for dad in 2005. Dad has put maybe 100 miles on the old truck but they think he is scared to drive it so they told him that they were going to sell it. I guess that dad won't let anyone walk close to it. It resides in dad's garage in Redding California. Price is negotiable. I am not in need of any additional projects so that was all I got from the son. He said if anyone is interested that he will give them dad's phone number but warns that he will talk your ear off. They just sold two FJ40's one of them with a little over 50K original miles un-restored.

Cheers,

Jim

It looks like the one that Bruce Miller had fs in CO a few years ago. I remember drooling over some of the cruisers he had for sale. The bed was fabricated by him????? Someone on mud knows a lot about that cruiser.

The top of the wheel wells in the bed should be ribbed.

Man, that's beauty.

I want to know about the rear window rubber. It looks new, but it's hard to tell.

Same people I got my shorty from. The son is very nice and was definitely a pleasure to deal with. Never spoke to dad or saw this truck in person (just a few pics) but was told about it. Mine was here in SoCal and had been stored for 10 years and never restored as planned so the family bought one for the dad that was already done. That's this one.

I'd like to say thanks to TMACK for posting this up and the others that chimed in w/ info. I bought this truck a month or so ago and last weekend picked it up and drove it to Bikerso's shop for some tweaks to make it a more practical DD before shipping it back home to Alaska.

Beautiful truck and fine folks to buy from.

This pic was taken somewhere on the northern side of the CA/OR border last week. The leg from the seller's door to Bikerso's door was about 300 miles and the truck ran flawlessly. My ass however, lit on fire at about the halfway point.
