So i've got 17" wheels 9" Wide with a -12 offset coming in the mail. I'm planning on using 255/70/17 tires to keep it close to stock circumference since the vehicle is on stock suspension. The question is, would 255/70/17 be wide enough for a 9" wide wheel? Or it doesn't matter? I have no idea about wheels and tires and would rather look stupid than spending $800+ on 255/70/17 tires that wouldn't work with a 9" wide wheel.

That tire is only suggested for a 6.5"-8.5" wide wheel. It measures 31.1x10x17 so it would be pretty ballooned out on a 9" wheel. I'd suggest stepping up a size a 275/65/17 (31.1x10.8x17) or a 265/70/17 (31.6x10.4x17) both of which can be run on a 9" wide wheel without issue.

And to add to Tex68w, if you ever air down for off roading with that wide of wheel and narrow of tire, you will for sure blow your tire bead off your rim.
I've posted this elsewhere, generally you want as narrow a wheel as possible for your tire.
