Just found a set of Toyota Factory 17" rims off of a prado. Looks like they should clear the caliper on the 60, no problem. Going to slap them on later today to check....

Now the big question: What tires?

running OME and h41 w/ 3.73 so I'm aiming for something close to a 33x10.50 ... but what the heck is that in metric for 17's?

oh, and let's not get too exotic here, I'm in central america, no a ton of choices out there.

Best part: the rims are practically free! whoo-hoo! no more mismatched rusty 15's for me!

I think that tire size 285/70 R17 would work pretty well on the 60. GY MT/Rs in this size are available and are 8"+ wide, and 32.9" tall. Another choice would be Toyo M55s. Don't know if these are available where you are.

yeah 285/70/17 equals out to 33x11.50

275/70/17 i believe is a bit more common and is a 32.5x11. pretty sure that's the narrowest you can get for the 17s in metric.

i dont know how you can have the same middle number and have different widths, but thats just how it is. metric, kilometers, they're all brain numbing to me. :/

Yeah, the metric sizes are a bit strange at first, but it actually is fairly simple.

for example: 285/70/17

285 = width of tire in mm (11.22 in)

70 = percentage of width that makes up sidewall
= 285mm x .7 = 200mm (7.87 in)

17 = rim radius in inches

So, total tire height = rim radius + 2 x sidewall

in this case: 17in + 2 x 7.87in = 32.74in total tire height

No toyo M55, it doesn't come in 17. In fact not many decent tires come in a 17.

Best one we have found at work for the rought roads is a cooper, discovery.

Seems aggressive enough.

Most of the tire manufactures have not gotten spooled up yet for decent 17 commercial tires.

Lots of city tires in that size tho, and racing type tires.......That was the bling size 8 years ago. :)

Found plenty of "aggressive" street tires. But nothing mudder. After a recent tire explosion (yesterday) I'm focusing more on sidewall strength. Tomorrow I'm off to see if I can get 5 new bridgestone Jeep Service 7.50r16 tires. Won't get to use the almost-free 17" rims, but will probably save quite a bit on the tires themselves.

I may still try out the 17's to see if the backspacing works, just for general knowledge.

Sandcruiser,
Is this the jeep service tire(bridgestone)?

It comes in a 7.50R16 and a 235/85/r16. I have the 235. I have seen both side by side, 235 is a better fit for a 60 series cruiser.

Its called VSX v-steel. Mega tough, 10 ply tire E rated. Sidewalls are very strong, Also re-treadable. Next time I retread I am going to go for a miltary lug design, kinda like the XZL.

Ignore the rust eh? I have already welded in new stuff!
