hey everyone im new to the site i find swaps for the 4 speed but i wana convert my three on the tree to a v8 been done ? is it the same swap any info would be awsome i realy enjoy the three on the tree and wana keep it

Try contacting one of the vendors like Downey or Mark's. Downey has a kit listed for an original 3sp. Floor or column I don't know. Back in the day I'm sure this was an option, but most swapped out to the floor model. Less slop and more direct shifting. Good luck.

Mark has made a 4 on the tree, but I do not know where this project stands today, as I do not know if he has kits for sale.

Anyone ever have a 4 on the tree?

3 speeds and V8 were done back in the day by Confer and others some Toyota dealerships in the 60s offered V8 as a Dealer option

Mark off Road Marks Off Road Home Page has the 4 on the tree prototype :grinpimp:

Also check with Mark Marks Off Road Home Page on V8 adapters there are tons of USED one around Cheep !

The 3 speed trans with either the floor shifter or column shift is essential the same trans...and the adapter is only a plate that spaces the trans back from the chevy engine a bit...the spline count is the same. (original 1F is a metric Chevy knock-off kinda thing) Not sure why you'd want to keep the original 3-speed, (theyre pretty much junk in my opinion; no syncho 1st, crappy low range) or the column shift, but it wouldnt be any harder than any other adaptation. Put an an in the classifieds looking for a used adapter.

i duno i just realy enjoy driveing something with three on the tree my first vehicle was then i sold it and ive had fjs i have a new cruiser i got a wheeler this is gona be more of a cruiser :D

Howdy! V8 to 3 speed should be easy to find. Three on the tree linkage will require careful driveline position so the linkage is still in the original position so it shifts well. John
