16 LC - does it come with covers for rear DVD screens?

Everything else on the LC is very practical and functional, but these screens seem to be the opposite. The LX and GX use screens in the headrest, which would make more sense. These are bulky rather than sleek. Swing and miss, IMHO.

I have bad news, friends.

I received a voicemail from Toyota USA today, who were following up on my query. The 16 model does not come with covers for the DVD/video screens. So I'm afraid the only plausible explanation for their appearance in photos above and the video is..... elves. They must be cargo ship stowaways secretly making these while the trucks make their way from Japan, unless of course they're US-based. Either way: elves. It's the only logical explanation.

Have you figured out if the video screens can be removed entirely?

They are clueless including dealers. They come with the truck. They were in the video in package, those who bought 16 have them and there is a reference of them in the manual.

I'm betting they aren't listed on the specs because it's just a given that they come with the US Cruiser.

So....if it it's not on some paper you can't point at...the dealer thinks it doesn't exist...

Those screens look like they fold UP. Maybe when the 2nd row is folded forward they are supposed to be folded up so the seat can slip underneath?

In any event those would be broken in about a week in my truck...

I would want something fitted in place of the screen mount if it is removed.

Here's a couple pic's with the access panel removed. It looks held on with just 3 bolts. But there is a pretty big hole for the wires and the area underneath the metal bracket isn't finished.

Huh. The chances of someone actually producing a delete cover for that seems pretty slim... Maybe an upholstery guy could come up with something...

Here is a picture with the 2nd row seat folded. The screen adds a step or two the process. But in the end it isn't very exposed.

Looks like it would be pretty easy to remove and fashion up a small blank out of wood. Maybe stain it the same color as 'wood' trim.

Just bought our 2016. Salesman didn't know about the screen covers, but eventually he did find them for us. (Someone had stashed them in their desk before putting the Land Cruiser on the floor.)

If you're in this situation and need help convincing the dealership that they really do exist, point them at page 130 of the manual that refers to them (see attached).

Glad I found this thread - otherwise would never have known they existed!

WARNING: RANT-MODE.....ENGAGE...

For the life of me, I cannot fathom what's up with the design of these screens. Judging by the MASSIVE structure behind the actual screens, one would think they were made in the 1990's... An iPad or Android tablet is mere millimeters thick. What on EARTH made these screens, and the secondary hardware between the screen and seat require what appears to be about 5 inches of overall thickness??? Just makes no sense to me. An iPad-like screen could have easily been a THIN panel built right into the seat back, adding roughly NO extension, like an airplane screen.

When people fold their seats fully forward... -It's usually because you need to cram a bunch of STUFF into the back. But with this design?? The screen is in THE most vulnerable spot of all--actually facing the STUFF which naturally has a tendency to slide forward upon braking, etc.. When it slides forward? -Right smack dab into the rear screen that sits atop the fold-forward seat.

OK... Rant over...but I personally think someone at Toyota ROYALLY screwed the pooch on this little design.

OK OK... I said rant over... ;) Sorry bout dat.... :deadhorse:

yep, I believe you can not order a LC with out it. Thats the reason I have not upgraded yet. Those screen are a complete waste for me, seriously do not like them one bit. My 2011 has the roof mouinted drop down and my now 9 year old son hardly if ever uses it. Hes much happier with his iPad loaded with HD movies.
