16.5in steelies?

I found some 37s for $300 half tread no rot. But they need 16.5in wheels. All I've found are is 4in BS and I know the magic number is right around 2.5. Is there a place to get some cheap wheels? I know I can get some custom ones built, but I think that would be pretty expensive.

I'll start a thread in the next week or so about my version 2 build up. Stay tuned, I got a JD2 bender and a lot of rust in the roof I'm dying to cut off...

If this is a wheeling rig, I'd stay away from the 16.5" wheels, no safety bead and all that.

Hmm, whats a safety bead? Its going to be an on and offroad vehicle.

It's not accurate to say that ALL 16.5" wheels do not have a safety bead, but most do not, and if I can poke around google images, I'll dig up some pics to help ID the safety bead.

Edit: Here's a pic illustrating the safety beads, (look at the extra 'bump' about 1" inboard of each outer wheel lips) and the pic was captioned as a "16.5" tire" but I can't vouch any further for the validity.

Basically, the safety bead is an extra lip in the wheel that helps retain the bead. At normal road pressures, it won't matter, but at offroad pressures, it becomes much easier to lose the bead.

Aside from being very heavy, H1 wheels would be your best bet to cheaply mount those 16.5" tires you found. No worries at all about a safety bead with H1's.

i had a set made from usa custom wheels. 65 ea unpainted. you tell them what you need and they will do it for you.

i also found a set of hummer tires and needed wheels for 6 lug cruiser. also i can tell you i lost my bead pretty easy once b4, but that was not too bad, but the way it came off it too the valve stem with it too. any way have a good evening.

What price would I be looking at to get some H1s and get them set for 6 lug? Also, why is it that 16.5in wheels dont have safety beads?

get steel 16.5 new from stockton wheel: look at the 22 series and 20 series....and not a bad price

I wouldn't put much effort into the 16.5's You may be looking at the last set you're going to get. I have 33x12.50/16.5's on my powerstroke, and it's getting to be a bigger and bigger hassle to find replacements. I'm bailing on my centerline wheels and 16.5's next time around.

Texx-thats what I was sort of thinking. But I'm not sure if I'll find used 37s in a 15in rim around here, I dont really want to spend the extra money to buy new ones. But its probably best to wait for some 15in 37s.

I bought a set of Good Year Military OZ 37 x 12.5 x 16.5 and H1's for a one ton build I did.

I loved the tires so much I had Marsh build a set of 16.5" beadlocks with the Toyota bolt pattern @ 4" back spacing.
They fit my sprung over FJ60 with zero issues, but I have the 4x4 Labs high steer on the knuckles

Killer wheels and with over 12,000 miles on them, still hold air and balanced out very well.

Redcorn...those are the exact tires that I found. How are they on and offroad? I just dont know if its worth getting the wheels to run these tires.

Most manufacturers have. There are now only two sources basically (possibly 3) for my size. And, they're getting pricey as hell. With all the new metric sizes and 16,17,18, and 20 plus inch tires, the 16.5's are done, it's just a matter of time.

I'll second this, had a blowout on my F350 with 16.5s, took 17 phone calls to find any brand of 35x12.5x16.5 in stock in a 75 mile radius, and they had 1 and only 1. The other 3 were ordered and shipped in and I saved one of my take offs for a spare, but I would stay away from these. Next time around I'll be changing rims and tires either back to 16s or maybe 17s, but no 18s either - those are the new 16.5 losing favor in the market as far as I can tell.
