I have been reading about the 14 bolt axles and i am considering swaping one onto my 40 eventually. i read that if you narrow one side u can use two short inners to get the offset diff. so im assuming that a regular 14 bolt has different length inners? or do you get an inner from a dually axle? any info would be greatly apreciated. if i got to the wrecking yard i want to know what i need to look for. thanks guys.

anyone got some info?

Dually 14 bolt and SRW 14 bolt have the exact same axle shaft lengths. You happen to notice Sputniks 14 bolt narrowing thread a bit down the page?

It really should answer most of your questions.

If your a sailor, then they make a nice anchor.

Or if farming is more your style, then they work great as a plow.

But if you are a wheeler, there are much better choices in rear axle selection.

What better option is out there considering the cost/strength?

I'd like to have a shaved and narrowed 14. I wouldn't want to have a few grand in it, though.

Exactly, what other axle can handle 44's for $50.00

If you are gonna drop the coin, then there are better options. But for the cheap, you can't beat a 14 bolt.

I've seen many a buggy say "what am I stuck on"....its a rock and guess where:D

So which axle do you reccomend, and how much more clearance do you actually end up with?

And at what cost?

Cause I cant' count how many times I have seen a 9", d60, D44, rockwell, etc.. hung up on the rear diff.

I hang up my 9.5" diffs on rocks all day long. One of the guys in my club just spun off a drain plug due to catching his rear 8.5" diff. We both run 35's.

possibly a 609 or 40 spline 9" but with big price tag. I was selling a 14b disk break narrowed, 6 on 5.5 and i would install the ballistic shave(your dime) for 1000 plus ship. currently have 3 14 bolts that i am working on for various people.

9" rear is tough but not 14b tough. the 9" stock housings are not all that beefy under a heavy truck. and u cant just bolt in a beefy detroit like the 14b. stock 9axleshafts arn't close to 14b strong

for the money the 14b strength cant be touched .

but a mildly built 40 on 35's would perhaps be better served with a 9".

correct.....while the 9 inch itself is ok the housing itself is weak buttttttttt I suppose you could truss it:meh:
