Hey all i have a 1985 hj60 with a 12ht when i start her up she idles really low (dont know what revs as the taco has stopped working) was wondering if anyone else has or has had this problem and what did they do to fix it. I also want some more power/boost, from the research ive done i want to get an egt guage does it matter what brand i use is there really and difference other then the price and the temps it can display? I also what boost controller does everyone have and how much psi are they pushing. The engines basically stock apart from some minor exhaust mods from what ive heard people like to go 10-12psi with the stock ct26 is there any mods i should do before i up the boost (like exhaust, intercooler ect.)
or is there better ways to get more power without messing with the turbo i dont want a lot more power just a bit more torque. cheers

Also what Egt should i be expecting i also forgot to mention i will be planning on running it on a mix of diesel, used cooking and engine oil and a little bit of petrol

tuning this motor for more power is a combo of increasing fuel and boost and possibly bigger diameter exhaust (and adjusting timing is another more advanced technique). You shouldn't adjust the boost without an EGT gauge to monitor heat (I have used Auber Instruments). You will have to search for hard numbers, I don't have any other than 12–15 psi is a relatively safe and efficient boost increase range. Research about how to adjust the fuel.

sorry I can't help with the low idle issue.

What you are describing is pretty common on the 12ht when starting. Some joke it's like waking the dragon. It's not a problem just a hallmark of the 12ht. They creep to life when cold starting with low idle.

First thing I would do is install and EGT gauge. I also like above have Auber. Next I would do a 3 inch exhaust and down pipe as the 12ht likes to breath. Run it as is and slowly tune and tweek it.
