I recently purchased a "professionally rebuilt" CT26 turbo assembly from a Mud member I wont mention yet for my 12HT. Upon pulling it out of the box I noticed that there was a crack around the waste gate area that continues into the exhaust housing. I specifically asked this member if it was cracked and he said no. Upon further inspection I could feel axial play. I took out my indicator gauge and measured .004" axial movement, limit for factory spec is .005". Now this being a rebuilt turbo wouldn't there be less axial play? I am pretty worried about running this turbo I just bought that was expensive and just having to pull it off again for another rebuild soon. I understand that with the journal type bearing there needs to be room for oil so there will be a little play but this seems excessive after a fresh rebuild. Thoughts?

There should be a little play because there is no oil in it at the moment. I’m not sure if factory axial play is measured with or without oil of some sort in there.

the crack is a little concerning but I would ask the rebuilder what their thoughts are on it. Or send a picture and ask what they think of that.
